Coronavirus

School attended by George and Charlotte affected.

Hi

The one thing that this is showing is the fragility of the World Economy.

Stock markets are falling as more and more companies have to reduce production due to component shortages.

Cases confirmed including Derbyshire UK fetching the total to 15 school and GP practice closed .

Interesting to see the Japanese are saying that a person can become reinfected.

Yes, I read about that lady who became reinfected, so quick too, poor woman

WHO seem vague about the quarantine time, surely travel restrictions and any large gathering of people the obvious action to slow the spread of the virus.

Chaotic situation now, advice for returning travellers call NHS 111, stay indoors and avoid contact with other people. Do not go to a GP surgery, pharmacy or hospital.

I received a text from my GP surgery this afternoon.
It said about not to go to the surgery if you believe you may have symptoms of the virus and/or have returned from any of the following places in the last fortnight:

China, Thailand, Vietnam, Myanmar, Laos, Cambodia, Japan, Korea, Taiwan, Singapore, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Macau or Italy.

It says to ring NHS 111.

I have a visitor coming from Malaysia on the first week in April. I wonder how the travel restrictions will affect her?

How to protect yourself against COVID-19:

Firstly, there’s no evidence of COVID-19 spreading in the community in Australia so far. Common sense applies here.

But if you are worried, here is how to minimise your risk:

[list]
[]Wash your hands properly: Soap and water are two of our most powerful allies against infectious disease. Hand washing should take at least 20 seconds (hum “Happy Birthday” to yourself twice as you wash to keep track)
[
]Be careful what you touch: We don’t know how long the virus can survive on surfaces. Keep surfaces that are touched regularly clean, and avoid touching your nose, mouth or eyes, especially if you haven’t washed your hands for a while
[]If you’re at risk of COVID-19 (for example, if you’ve been in contact with someone with the illness or you’ve travelled somewhere there’s an outbreak) and you’ve got flu-like symptoms, phone your GP. But don’t show up to a GP practice or hospital without telling them first, as they will need to arrange to protect others before you arrive
[
]Get a flu shot when the time comes: There’s no vaccine against COVID-19 (yet — and there won’t be for some months), but using the vaccines we do have will help ease the burden on the health system and make it easier to identify COVID-19.

Put down the masks

Don’t waste face masks by wearing them out of fear of the coronavirus.

Even though the Federal Government has activated its emergency response plan in anticipation of the virus being declared a pandemic, there’s actually no evidence of community transmission in Australia so far.

Whilst we are preparing and we are realistic about what might come in future weeks, we are not in a situation where anyone needs to be concerned. No-one should go around wearing and wasting face masks.

Federal minister Greg Hunt says there are around 20 million masks in the national medical stockpile.

In the wider world another 24 hours and not much has changed (except in Italy):

Hi

My Daughter travels extensively for work.

She was due in Hong Kong Monday foe 4 days, followed by a fortnight in South Korea.

All cancelled and instead she is off to Chicago for three weeks.

You have to take a measured view on everything you hear or read. Sky News and all news programs and papers are in the business of making their news more likely to get your attention than others…so bigger headlines…greater sensationalism. etc etc

Sensationalism: (especially in journalism) the presentation of stories in a way that is intended to provoke public interest or excitement, at the expense of accuracy.

Not exactly true - avoiding contact isn’t a blanket requirement for everyone! It depends not only WHICH country you are returning from, but WHICH PART OF THAT COUNTRY, you have visited.

Probably best to phone 111 and get their advice.

Sky News is broadcasting a special programme, Virus Outbreak Global Emergency @ 2 o ‘clock Friday

They are trying to avoid panic!

This is excellent! Suggest those of you who are close to panic watch AND UNDERSTAND this, in preference to Sky News.

Zuleika - you don’t need Sky to watch the video posted by Bruce!

Thanks Lindyloo I’m going to watch it but rear assured I’m nowhere near panic stage .

Neither Mr nor Mrs Abel but one of the four not allowed to fly back on the last flight to Briton has died in quarantine .
Japan has announced this .
Sad eh ?

Now you know the names of the victims? Hmmmm…I’m not sure what to say!

Im amazed you don’t know the names . Mr and Mrs Abel have been on Facebook daily during the quarantine onboard giving updates from the Diamond Princess as well as their son being on British tv news .
We knew he and his wife unfortunately tested positive just as they were looking forward to take the flight home with others and taken into isolation .
We were still being updated.
That’s how we know their names .
The Japanese health authority have now announced to the world one of the four taken into hospital he/she has died but is not one the Abel’s .

Cases in the UK up to 19
