On the same day as residents of NSW get their first taste of freedom with most Covid restrictions removed Brisbane has been declared a hotspot and has gone into a three day lockdown after there were four more cases of community transmission of the UK strain detected.

All arrivals from Queensland to NSW since the 20th March have been contacted and told to get tested and isolate until they are declared negative.

WA has closed its borders to Brisbane residents.

How quickly things can change.

Queensland’s COVID-19 outbreak has grown overnight, with Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk announcing 10 new cases, eight of those locally acquired.

She said six are close contacts of confirmed cases, and two others are still under investigation.

Queensland COVID-19 snapshot:

Confirmed cases so far: 1,466
Deaths: 6
Tests conducted: 2,162,250
Active cases: 78
Latest information from Queensland Health.

But health authorities have now identified two distinct clusters, both strains of the highly infectious UK variant.

It comes as Brisbane enters its first day of a snap three-day lockdown, introduced after health authorities revealed a COVID-19 cluster involving the highly contagious UK strain had grown to seven people yesterday.

Masks will be mandatory in NSW’s north and a raft of social-distancing restrictions will be tightened after a new COVID-19 case was found in Byron Bay last night.

As two COVID-19 clusters continue to grow in Brisbane, the NSW Government today confirmed community transmission of the virus had been discovered in the holiday hotspot — around an hour’s drive from the Queensland border.

The case will be reported in tomorrow’s official coronavirus numbers update and has been traced to the Byron Beach Hotel, which an infected visitor from Brisbane attended on March 20.

Premier Gladys Berejiklian said social-distancing restrictions in the Tweed, Byron, Ballina and Lismore local government areas (LGAs) would be tightened in response to the new infection.

Our figures seem to be up and down, where are they doing the testing I wonder…:017: In the covid wards of hospitals…:frowning:

How did we get here?

Practically all the four million plus in the UK will have had it, recovered, and be back at work now, leaving us with just a few thousand who are currently infected. I suppose if we used rolling totals for cancer deaths, or heart attack deaths, or road accident deaths, we’d never set foot outside again and eat another pork pie…

To be fair the table the figures come from includes “Active Cases” (371,724 currently in the UK) and “Total Recovered” (3,847,351 in the UK)

There is a link to this information in the message.

Thanks Bruce, I expected active cases to be a lot less than the total number of cases since it first began. It can be very frightening for some who might think that there are over 4 million cases still active…I think the idea is to frighten people.
