Victoria has recorded 384 new coronavirus cases and six more deaths, as the state puts a pause on non-urgent elective surgeries to free up more staff to treat COVID-19 patients.
Premier Daniel Andrews said two people aged in their 90s, three people in their 80s and one person in their 70s had died.
Four of those fatalities are linked to clusters in private-sector aged care homes.
It has to be said that it appears that the mortality rate is stabilising as hospitals get a handle on effective treatments for serious cases but it does appear that far more long term effects are being recognised

We’re fine, shocked as I can’t say any of us were ill as such
Mind her having it in March and it now being July makes us feel better.
But this print out she got is quite interesting, now she also got T cells and other stuff, and now she is immune to 4 things and she is safe to visit…bit late that bit.
But fingers crossed if we did have it, we had it mild and should have an immunity. which be great

Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews has announced 723 more cases and 13 deaths from coronavirus in the past 24 hours, both daily records since the pandemic began.
Reading between lines and calling a spade a spade, the areas affected include:
‘All of Greater Manchester’ (though the worst affected areas are Oldham and Rochdale)
‘East Lancashire’ (though the worst affected area is Blackburn)
Bradford, Halifax and Huddersfield
and Leicester of course.
I can find nothing in the article mentioning the root cause of the problem by its actual name, but that’s to be expected of course!
The ‘All of Greater Manchester’ affects me directly, despite the area in and around my neck of the woods is not particularly affected.
I can live with that personally, but it annoys me when they include many innocent people in their ‘blame game’ purely because they daren’t mention the real culprits for fear of upsetting them, even though we all know who they are!
Couldn’t agree more JBR I’m affected in exactly the same way even though I live in a small village with no cases we are lumped in with Bradford…in my whole life I have only ever been to Bradford two or three times but there you go we are tarred with the same brush.
Can you believe that whilst the rest of us are incarcerated in our homes they are still allowing Ede to take place and the Mosques are open with no restrictions…madness!
Have we learned nothing from history?
The people of Eyam knew how to deal with the plague…Does it sound familiar?
The history of the plague in the village began in 1665 when a flea-infested bundle of cloth arrived from London for Alexander Hadfield, the local tailor.[14] Within a week his assistant George Viccars, who noticing the bundle was damp, had opened it up.[15] Before long he was dead and more began dying in the household soon after.[16]
As the disease spread, the villagers turned for leadership to their rector, the Reverend William Mompesson, and the ejected Puritan minister Thomas Stanley. They introduced a number of precautions to slow the spread of the illness from May 1666. The measures included the arrangement that families were to bury their own dead and relocation of church services to the natural amphitheatre of Cucklett Delph,[17] allowing villagers to separate themselves and so reducing the risk of infection. Perhaps the best-known decision was to quarantine the entire village to prevent further spread of the disease.
The plague ran its course over 14 months and one account states that it killed at least 260 villagers, with only 83 surviving out of a population of 350.[16] That figure has been challenged on a number of occasions, with alternative figures of 430 survivors from a population of around 800 being given.[16] The church in Eyam has a record of 273 individuals who were victims of the plague.[18]
Survival among those affected appeared random, as many who remained alive had close contact with those who died but never caught the disease. For example, Elizabeth Hancock was uninfected despite burying six children and her husband in eight days. The graves are known as the Riley graves after the farm where they lived.[14] The unofficial village gravedigger, Marshall Howe, also survived, despite handling many infected bodies.[16]
The village’s actions prevented the disease from moving into surrounding areas.[19]
That is exactly the problem.
Look at the listed areas where this latest lockdown order is being applied and it becomes clear where the real problem lies.
Of course, no-one wants to name names, but everyone knows full well the people we are talking about. Listening to Hancock on the news this morning (not live - catch-up, I must stress as I no longer have a TV licence!) umming and ahhing trying to avoid saying what we all know, was quite amusing.
With Eid beginning tonight, I’m looking forward to how the government are hoping to police this ‘lockdown’ in some of the areas they have stated.
It should prove very enlightening, if we are to keep an eye on the trustworthy news sources.
