As I mentioned some while ago - it could be population density? UK = 259 per sq km; Australia = 3.1 per sq km
London = 4542 per sq km;
Sydney = 407 per sq km
I guess that must be taken into consideration with something as contagious as CV

Exactly so. I completely agree.
That’s a fair point but what about the difference between towns in the UK and USA? Surely population density must be similar in the respective cities?
USA 1.8%
UK 6%
If it were purely population density why is the UK figure three times that of the USA?
Just curious.
It could be the age of those affected; for example Australia has locked down Aged Care homes completely - no visitors. I think deaths in Australia are all in their 70s to 90s but two thirds of our new cases are traceable to overseas infections still (according to yesterdays news)
We probably won’t know why until this is over but at the moment countries with experience of SARS seem to be coping better. They have much higher population densities than most western countries (think Singapore)
There was talk about ‘Viral load’ Bruce, where if you had been infected by a number of sources you had less chance of survival. We left it rather late to close our big international airports and infected people came flooding in without being aware that they were infected. Obviously in order for the virus to arrive in England so quickly, it would have had to be brought in by air. So I wonder if most deaths are grouped around the big international airports like Heathrow, Luton, Gatwick, and Birmingham. Further more, if the incubation period is longer than at first thought, Then London could have several hundred infected people walking around at the same time passing it on multiple times.
It would appear that the countries who were slow to isolate are now suffering the consequences. Perhaps if the measures we are experiencing now had been put in place weeks earlier when it was first identified, we could have kept in under better control. Easier to say after the horse has bolted.
Just a quick point, Australia have always been a bit more fussy who they let into their country than America and the UK. We should take note, and learn a lesson here…
It isn’t only China that appears to take some sort of pleasure in torturing animals.
A couple of years ago we went on a holiday to Assam in the east of India. One of the tours on offer was to a Hindu temple which, in itself was quite interesting.
Unfortunately, one of the ‘highlights’ of the visit was the witnessing of the ‘religious’ slaughter of a goat. We had no wish to view that so went off elsewhere. That didn’t prevent our hearing its screams, though.
Religion again!
I have a dream that one day the entire world will have become civilised. I somehow doubt it, though.
Alternatively, the world will be a better place when mankind has killed itself off completely. Bring on WW3.
The way things are, and the way they are going, I’d say that NZ would be a preferable place to live, full stop.
If I were younger, I’d emigrate.
Think it hit the West coast first high numbers in Cal and Seattle and then NY took a hit
On an American site when the owner stated that and sneered about people panicking but he is from Maine and they had one case at the time that was 3 weeks ago he has said sorry since
My local area at the time had two cases and one death.
To day cases are over 70 a bit worring because of the climb in cases in two weeks
My Daughter did tell me that the Isle of White has the lowest number of care beds in the whole country.
Glad I dont live there
I don’t use any form of mask either!
Read the many academic journals and reports and you will find that there is absolutely no concrete evidence that ordinary paper masks prevent the ingress of coronavirus.
The only advantage is that they can, to a point and temporarily (until they are wet), contain some expelled virus micro-particles.
I find it slightly amusing to watch people parading about with their cheap masks, labouring under the misapprehension that they have made themselves immune!
Hence the laughing smiley at the bottom of all of your posts!
Allthough it is only academic now, l still say that the cause of the
world wide spread of the virus happened back in january when the
news first broke about the outbreak in china?
What did we do about our citizens that were working or just visiting
in china?
We immediately set about repatriating them to their native countries!
Why?
They should have been left there, with diplomatic support only!
If we had done this, airlines would still be flying!
Ocean liners still sailing!
Money markets would not have collapsed!
In fact most of what we see now would not be happening!
All because we were not prepared to leave a few people out in
China for a few weeks!
The carnage would have been almost completely restricted to
China!
But like l say, its only academic now!
We reap what we sow!
Have a happy lockdown day!
Donkeyman!
There is one thing that is certain and that is that the world and the way we live in it will never be the same when all this is over. It,s going to be years before this virus will be conquered once and for all.
Yes, Donkeyman. If we had it to do all over again, it would make a great deal of sense to take the returning citizens to some remote military base. Then have a total lockdown of that base for a minimum of 30 days. Healthcare personnel and supplies could come in to the base, but absolutely no one could leave.
A good lesson for the future.
Over the nearby border to me in Bedfordshire, there is a big detention centre for suspect immigrants. Not sure how it all works, but still.
Anyway, on the local news recently it said this centre had some cases of Coronavirus, and it was being considered whether to release all the inmates! What sort of madman’s logic is that, sending all the illegal immigrants out into the community carrying Coronavirus???
I haven’t heard antrhing since, so just googled it and found this:
Here is another link about the release too:
That’s all I think about. It’s very sad but maybe the world will find a way forward together. The world brought to its knees.
If you were power mad, you would release a virus in a country which is not trusted, deflecting the blame. You would ‘silence’ any scientist that was working on it for you.
Then sit back and wait, maybe cause another outbreak later in another continent. Your country remains safe.
Perhaps offer to help any country which you would like to take over, perhaps you already have infiltrated and have people posted there, they would gratefully open their doors.
Then you move to take over their government which you have been manipulating for years via elections etc.
You have turned brother against brother, rich against poor, healthy against sick.
It’s aliens I tell ya!
Or is it?
Ah yes, the greedy lawyers and human rights activists!
No doubt it is these same people who are prohibiting the repatriation of illegal immigrants and encouraging their rescue from the Channel by the Border Farce.
It is these same people who are working to eventually ruin this once-proud country.
Marge and I are fortunate that we have not had any children.
Or North Koreans? They claim to be the only country which remains free from the virus!
Funny you should say that JBR, a friend of mine said exactly the same last night.
