I’m no fan of Ulrika but I entirely agree with her viewpoint …
Me too.
Covid in Scotland: New cases pass 3,000 to reach new record high
A further 3,285 cases of Covid-19 have been recorded in Scotland, a new record high.
A total of 12.6% of people who were tested for the virus were positive. The previous highest number of cases was the 2,999 reported last Thursday.
The government aims to move the whole of Scotland to the lowest level of the five-tier system of restrictions on 19 July, before lifting most measures entirely in August.
However, the announcement of these plans has coincided with a sharp rise in new cases of the virus, with infections surpassing the highest levels of the “second wave” in January.
Huge crowds gathered in and around Edinburgh Waverley train station today as the Queen touched down in the capital for a week-long visit to Scotland.
Queen Elizabeth II, 95, was greeted by large crowds who were kept behind barriers and monitored by police and security as she arrived at the station today [June 28] for Royal Week.

Footage showed a cheering crowd greeting Her Majesty as she made her way to a waiting car.
The Queen was later spotted in Cumbernauld with her grandson The Duke of Cambridge for a tour of the AG Barr’s factory to see how Scotland’s iconic Irn Bru soft drink is made.
Well Her Maj’ doesn’t appear to be too perturbed about it…so neither will I.
A further 22,868* confirmed cases in the UK were announced by the government on Monday …
That’s 116,287 in the last 7 days … :!:
- That takes us back to January 28th …
At the current average 7-day rate of 17,000 that could mean 510,000 in a month …
Nevertheless:
Easing measures on 19 July very likely, says Boris Johnson

Health Secretary Sajid Javid is updating MPs on the planned ending of England’s lockdown on 19 July and says: “My task is to help return the economic and cultural life of this country. For me 19th July is not only the end of the line but the start of an exciting new journey for our country.”
Unfounded optimism … :?:
According to the latest figures published by the Scottish government, East Lothian, Midlothian and the City of Edinburgh recorded some of the highest rates of Covid-19 in Scotland this week.
East Lothian has seen a jump in case figures and overtaken Dundee as the worst hit area in Scotland
- Compared to an average rate of 134.3 per 100,000 people in the UK.
Maybe We should all slit Our throats…would that make You any happier

More pupils sent home as Covid disruption soars
There has been a sharp rise in pupils sent home from school in England because of Covid, according to the latest official figures.
They showed that more than 375,000 pupils - about one in 20 - were out of school for Covid-related reasons, up by more than 130,000 in a week.
The Department for Education figures show the highest number of Covid-related absences since the return to school in March, with 5% of children out of school, up from 3.3% the previous week.

“The government simply does not appear to have a grip on this situation,” said Paul Whiteman of the National Association of Head Teachers, warning of rising disruption. “It is clear that a different approach is needed in the autumn term,” said Geoff Barton of the ASCL head teachers’ union. But he complained that so far the government’s proposals are only “vague aspirations”.
With another COVID-related increase, it doesn’t seem like we’re “out of the woods” or anywhere near it …
I was just reading about the amount of pupils absent from school - its shocking. Also, the amount of schools that are advertising for staff (general staff, not teachers) is awful.
You’re right … it’s shocking …
Pupil absenteeism, on top of all the other educational disruption, is another of those hidden “costs” to the country … :!:
The education system, like the NHS, will take years to recover and require billions of pounds …
I know…and it’ll be these same children that will have to pay for it.
A further 20,479 confirmed cases in the UK were announced by the government on Tuesday …
That’s 125,141 in the last 7 days … :!:
No surprise there then Idiots.
Football linked to 2,000 Scottish Covid cases
Nearly 2,000 Covid cases in Scotland have been linked to people watching Euro 2020 football matches.
Public Health Scotland said two thirds of the 1,991 cases were people who travelled to London for Scotland’s game with England on 18 June.
This included 397 fans who were inside Wembley for the match.
No surprise, but it’s not either as bad or as clear as it sounds:
Nick Triggle

There has been a lot of talk about the mixing prompted by watching football being a cause of spread of the virus in Scotland.
It is an easy target given the images of people together in stadiums and fanzone sites.
But the problem with this data is it does not provide the answer to that.
It is contact tracing data used to establish who should be asked to isolate because they may be a close contact of an infected person.
It does not tell you where the individual caught the virus - just where they had been when they were infectious.
So this tells us that 6% of positive cases during this period attended a match, Fanzone, someone’s home or the pub to watch a game of football.
The fact that people were out enjoying Scotland’s first tournament for 23 years is no surprise.
So, apparently, the risk of infection is increased by mixing in a football crowd but by how much is uncertain.
Still, all data is grist to the mill …
A further 26,068 confirmed cases in the UK were announced by the government on Wednesday …
That’s 135,074 in the last 7 days … :!:
Blimey … How bad is it going to get … :?:
That takes us back to 24th January …

See, I don’t get this…the cases are rising steadily and BJ thinks we will just have to live with it?! Err, how about no! This isn’t the flu…and I daresay it won’t be the last “new” virus that happens, so…what, are we all to walk around like incubation receptacles?
