Coronavirus: Second wave of Covid-19 coming to UK, says PM

Maybe we all move there LOL

I’m digging a trench!

Locally, we have 71 cases per 100,000 people for the latest week 23 Sep-29 Sep. The average area in England had 28.

I have just checked the latest rules and now:

You must not meet other people outside of your own household, or support or childcare bubble, in private homes and gardens. A support bubble is where a household with one adult joins with another household. A childcare bubble is where someone in one household can provide informal childcare to a child aged 13 or under in another household.

You are advised not to socialise with people you do not live with at any public venue - inside or outside - including cafes, pubs, community centres, shops and parks.

You should not visit friends or family in care homes, other than in exceptional circumstances. Care homes should restrict visits to these circumstances.

You can travel outside your area. However, you must not meet people you do not live with in their home or garden, unless they’re in your support bubble.

:grouphug:

I think they are doing their best if anyone’s best will be good enough is to be seen.

Where’s ‘here’?

The “results” are late again … is there another “recount” … :?:

I’ve just noticed that the number of patients on ventilator beds has shot up alarmingly from a low of about 70 in September to nearly 400 on Friday … :!:

Does it say where the hospital patients are?

No … there are 2,428 hospital patients in total, though.

The results are now an hour late … :069:

Hi

Our local infection rate in Shropshire shot up yesterday following the huge reporting of positive tests.

The system is not working properly.

There’s obviously been some massive mismangement of data if thousands of recorded cases have gone missing and then reappeared - it’s about time that Harding’s head rolled … :!:

It certainly doesn’t sound as if it is working properly. I wonder how many more areas are under reported!

The results are now nearly four hours late … :069:

Last night the delay meant that the numbers were appalling so not much hope for tonight … :frowning:

An issue was identified overnight on Friday 2 October in the automated process that transfers positive cases data to PHE. It has now been resolved.

The cases by publish date for 3 and 4 October include 15,841 additional cases with specimen dates between 25 September and 2 October — they are therefore artificially high for England and the UK.

UK Summary

Cases in United Kingdom

Daily 22,961

Total 502,978

The “real” daily figures are not (yet) available but, if my calculations are correct, there were 19,992 new cases, in total, for Saturday and Sunday, 3rd and 4th October … :!:

So, TWO shocking “milestones” reached in the course of the current pandemic:

Cases in United Kingdom

Daily 10,000+

Total 500,000+

:107:

https://www.itv.com/news/2020-10-04/uk-covid-cases-pass-half-a-million-as-further-22961-reported-in-single-day-due-to-counting-fault

Public Health England (PHE) said its investigation into the issue with the government’s coronavirus dashboard identified 15,841 cases which were not included in daily reports between September 25 and October 2.

Michael Brodie, the interim chief executive at Public Health England, said: "Every one of these cases received their Covid-19 test result as normal and all those who tested positive were advised to self-isolate.

NHS Test and Trace and PHE have worked to quickly resolve the issue and transferred all outstanding cases immediately into the NHS Test and Trace contact tracing system”.

The delay in entering nearly 16,000 extra positive test results onto the test and trace system means that the recent contacts of those 16,000 were not immediately followed up.

Estimates regarding the spread of the virus will now have to be recalculated and policies readjusted.

Any public confidence left in T, T & T will surely have evaporated after the previous “downturn” in figures and and now an “upturn”, both measured in their thousands … :!:

Today’s “results” due at 1600 for 1615 - what are the chances of an appearance as scheduled … :?:

ETA They’re on time:

We are updating the data…

The process takes approximately 15 minutes to complete. Please do not refresh the website until 4:15pm.

What are the chances of the number of cases being less than 10,000 … :?:

The numbers are going up by leaps and bounds … :!:

Only half of ‘missing’ cases contacted by contact tracers

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/live/world-54382914

Health Secretary Matt Hancock said as of 9am today, 51% of the previously “missing” 15,481 cases had been contacted a second time, for contact tracing purposes. They had already been contacted once when they found out they had tested positive.

“I want to reassure everyone that every single person that tested positive was told that result in the normal way in the normal timeframe,” he said. "They were told that they needed to self-isolate, which is of course now required by law.

So that still leaves half of the “positives” contacts untraced after a week, when, of course, many of them will have been infecting others …

Labour: ‘This is worse than a shambles’

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/live/world-54382914

Labour’s Jonathan Ashworth had some strong words for Health Secretary Matt Hancock in the House of Commons.

The shambles has become a debacle …
