Coronation Street

Yes, that’s just what Marge and I were saying after last night’s episode.
Marge noticed rainbow pictures in windows too which, she assured me, you don’t really see now. That indicates the approximate dates on which the show was recorded. Understandable, of course.

Yes, the Gary and Rick matter. One of the more interesting story lines.

Have you noticed how that black “builder” bloke pronounces his words in exactly the same weird manner that Dev does?

Paula Wilcox is a good actress isn’t she? And not much changed physically from her Man About the House days.

Yes, Marge and I said exactly the same after yesterday’s show. It’s also the over-acting. Both he and Dev do it. They over-stress some of the words, just as if they have been taught to do that like actors on the stage did before the days of microphones.

To me it simply sounds amateurish.

the builder is such a poor actor he needs to be replaced. The rest of the family are ok but his acting leaves me cringing.

That family, along with certain others, are simply ‘fillers’ to pad out the show.

In addition, of course, they fulfil the need for an ‘appropriate’ number of ‘minorities’.
Actually, go to any street in the middle of Salford (on which the show is based) and I very much doubt that you’ll find such a ‘representative’ range of such varied cultures and sexual proclivities!

Val was reading in the on-line version of a newspaper last night that Corrie is returning to 6 episodes/week in September. I can’t wait  3/week is more than enough.

From actress who played Mavis.

Thelma said: “They had so many more episodes to do and instead of taking it more slowly and filling the gaps they got more and more storylines and more and more characters and you just got confused.

“I think it was Helen [Worth, who plays Gail Platt] I was talking to or somebody and I said there were only about 25 in the cast when I joined but now there are like 50, 60 or 70.”

Lorna Laidlaw, who plays Aggie, was in daytime soap Doctors, playing the practice manager. She was so good she even had her own FB page as a cult following (yes, I also joined it). I loved her role in Doctors, but can’t say the same for Corrie.

I do agree with you about his way of talking, and wonder about the whole family. Why are they there?

And Maria in the hospital, with the mask on, that she took off when Gary woke up. Eh?

Yes, Thelma was perfectly correct.

“Too many actors now to keep track of all of their lives” - Exactly.

And I thought it was just me and my failing memory.

I agree. What exactly do they contribute to the show, other than boring inconsequential storylines.
I think it must be the queer footballer!

Corona Tion Street, hmmm, this could be interesting. I love a good conspiracy theory. Was it Trump? Was it Putin? What’s Boris’s next move?

d00d! You are a one!..:009:…But I like you…

Extra in the Rovers Return.

I can understand the very long gap since anyone last posted on this thread.

We still sit and watch Coronation Street every Monday, Wednesday and Friday but are becoming increasingly bored by what is on offer.

Today’s offering largely involved two poofs falling out, to the extent that when they kept re-appearing, I just fast-forwarded a couple of minutes until they had gone. It really should be re-named ‘Queer Street’.

The three or four storylines now are becoming incredibly slow and boring. It’s as if the writers have run out of any good ideas…
or perhaps they’re all ill with Covid!

The only reason we keep watching it week after week is in the forlorn hope that ‘Geoff’ will eventually get his comeuppance. Unfortunately, he is rarely seen these days.

I’m willing to bet that the viewer numbers have fallen through the floor over the past several weeks.

Is anyone else still watching this crap?

Yes, I will own up to watching it!

I agree it’s rubbish at the moment.

Geoff’s story is the only interesting one at the moment, and I miss seeing him. That Goth in the cafe is a rubbish actor IMO, and I can’t understand half of what she says (same as Dev). Mary is farsical - and not in a funny way, oh, and just how many more homosexuals are they going to fast forward into the programme?

I haven’t watched any of the soaps for years…i think soaps in general have had their day

Ditto. Main TV channels we hardly watch.

I was a great Corrie fan for decades. I stopped watching for a while when it just got SO ridiculous that I stopped watching for several months. I then got back into it a bit but am now considering dropping it again. Some of it is just so unbelievable …like Vicar Billy. Last night he was rowing furiously in the pub, would a vicar behave like that? he is intelligent and well educated yet chooses to be in a partnership with Paul who struggles to put a sentence together And come from a very dysfunctional family. He seems to have nothing in common with Billy either religiously, mentally or socially.

Marge came up with a good suggestion last night.
She said that we could look up the previews for the following episode each day and if Geoff doesn’t feature we won’t watch it!
