This morning’s hustings event is under way
Liz Truss arrived for her session at this morning’s hustings and said she was feeling good. Rishi Sunak was up ahead of her.
She was questioned by the 92 group - so-called not because of the year it was founded but because they used to meet at 92 Cheyne Walk, an upmarket address in Chelsea. They tend to be on the Thatcherite wing of the party and Include longstanding Eurosceptics. So her commitment to free market economics and her position on the Northern Ireland Protocol may go down well.
Suella Braverman arrived for her slot in bullish mood. She said she was enjoying the contest and honoured to be part of it. Team Braverman say they have set up lots of face to face meetings with fellow MPs - and stress the confidentiality of the ballot. In other words, they think some people publicly declaring for other candidates can be persuaded to do something else in the polling booth.
Seems to me they’re still at the stage where it’s about who they don’t want, rather than who they do
So every chink in the armour is getting exposed, Mordaunt on transsexuals, Sunak on taxes and being rich, etc etc
And a lot are making the mistake of voting for populism again, you’d have hoped they’d have learned something from the Johnson fiasco
So being against woke is a very “in” populist opinion, securing the support of all the Auntie Wokers
As is not having voted Remain, being “tough” on the EU, whatever that means, and being clear on what a woman is
Very appealing to the Right wing and reactionaries in the party and the masses
It’s because of her answer that a man who identifies as a woman is still biologically a man, and can only be recognised as a woman post-op. Cue the pile on by the LGBQTuncletomcobbleyandall community. She stated, quite correctly, IMO, that men who still had their tackle intact should not be allowed in female only spaces as there’s been incidents of such men sexually assaulting women, while others have been taking photos of women and young girls.
That’s certainly a catchy and fortunate slogan she has…PM4PM
I rather fancy a female PM, not sure about another Iron Lady.
Will she try to be another Thatcher I wonder?
Well let’s hope so…
I think it’s Rishi Sunak who has raised echoes of Thatcher in his comments about how he’s going to run the economy on Thatcher principles.
I’ve heard Penny Mordaunt being describes as a “socially liberal Brexiteer”
It won’t be easy.
There’s nothing left to privatise, there’s nothing left to shut down, and she can’t pop over to Brussels and browbeat the other members of the EU any more.
Now I’m really confused!
I thought it was the other way round and it was the Auntie Wokies and Rabid Right who didn’t like her because she said trans women are women
Then she changed her mind a bit and sad;
“Some people born male and who have been through the gender recognition process are also legally female. That DOES NOT mean they are biological women, like me.”
But Rightie Lawrence Fox, leading Auntie Woker, definitely doesn’t think she can say what a woman is …
I think Penny Mordaunt was criticised by the anti-Wokery lot for defending trans rights in Parliament, so she is probably back-pedalling a bit now to “live down” the reputation she had been given for being “too woke”
She seems to be leaving her wokery to sleep for a while during the elections!
PS
Who is Laurence Fox? He looks a bit like an actor who used to be on TV -
Is he an MP now?
Penny Mordaunt started her challenge and in the background could be be heard Land of hope and glory, I nearly vomited.
Also she had included sportsman in her video without asking permission, they have since gone on to demand they be removed.
I think that she meant that trans-women, i.e., former blokes, are women because she may have believed that they’ve had the conversion surgery?
Lefty sportsmen presumably?
The way that I understand her current “stance” is that she does not recognise male to female transgender individuals as “women” … but she’s been quoted differently previously, so …
I’m not sure but it was quite sickening
Unless they’ve had their block and tackle removed and gone through hormone treatment.
I heard her on LBC night with Iain Dale and she was talking about the legal position and what she said was ok with me.
He’s the one who played inspector Morse’s sidekick on TV. And no, not an MP, just an opinionated wannabe.
I think he was Lewis’s sidekick. Lewis was Morse’s sidekick.
Ah, thanks @PixieKnuckles and @scot37 - I thought he looked vaguely familiar.
He was good as the police Inspector’s assistant all those years ago but I’ve not seen him acting since the Lewis days - I had trouble recognising him.
