Facebook is inundated with people trying to profit from the war in Ukraine. Today there have adverts from someone calling themselves Oksana and saying their stained glass workshop has been damaged and they are unable to work from there. they are selling “stained glass” hummingbirds in Ukrainian colours.can you believe it?
There are also people selling Ukraine T shirts with some of the profits going to the people of Ukraine. The latest I saw was a fancy rolling pin again with profits going to Ukrainians. Why would anybody buy a flipping rolling pin when they could just send a donation to a reputable charity.
There are always people trying to profit from tragedy sadly.
I do agree. I’ve sent donations, and also I’ve bought machine embroidery designs from Ukrainian designers on Etsy. If a purchase helps them to keep going, to buy some food, then I’ll do it. My son booked an air bnb in Ukraine, obviously has no intention of going, but he was putting money directly in the pocket of an individual Ukrainian, which is what I do when I buy from the Ukrainian sellers.
Why on earth buy something in Ukrainian colours from someone who has nothing to do with the country? You’re not helping Ukraine at all - no guarantee that any profits will be going anywhere but the sellers bank account.
