I can never understand why mobile phone providers give us up to 5000 or Unlimited texts per month.
Who needs that many? Or am l wrong, that this is required by some, each month?
Do you use 5000 texts per month? Surely, that’s a bit sad if you do, isn’t it?
My BH is forever texting her friends. She may do 5000.Spends hours staring at the little screen pushing buttons…Why they just don’t phone one another I don’t know. I don’t text at all by the way
I hardly use my text allowance at all, as I use WhatsApp - it allows you to send images for free, whereas my provider charges 30p per image sent via text. Flippin’ rip off! I do send a lot of WhatsApps, though, to my son and daughter mainly, because I’m never sure whether a phone call might be interrupting their busy lives, whereas they can answer a text as and when they are able to, no pressure.
I’ve got unlimited texts and minutes, the minutes are only to numbers starting, 01,02,03 ,
For women who talk about nothing in particular
My phone company has unlimited texts and unlimited domestic, international calls and 35Gb of data, it is just a way of saying your monthly phone bill is (in my case) $25 or £13. It’s the data that makes the most difference if I didn’t want international calls I could get unlimited texts, unlimited domestic calls and 3Gb data for $10 (£5)
I think if you read the fine print there is a “reasonable use” clause so that if you do over do it they will restrict your use or charge you more. Having said that I have never heard of that happening.
To be honest it is the data that is absurd I have accumulated 300Gb of data on my phone which will never use.
I haven`t the foggiest how much data i use,but i am pretty sure if i use too much my husband will tell me, as he pays for it.
Same as me sheba we use WhatsApp too…much less intrusive and less time consuming than phone calls and so easy to use
I know I use less than 2Gb a month hence the ridiculous amount I have accumulated. I even turned off Wifi months ago to try to use more but still it accumulates
What ever the excuse for giving unlimited texts and calls it all make the landline phone an expensive, obsolete, encumbrance, don’t regret getting rid of mine for even a moment.
You’d have to spend loads of time doing it as well
That’s about 160 a day, so if you only spent 30 seconds on each that’s an hour and twenty minutes just sending and presumably you’d spend time reading your replies as well
Maybe they are just a cheapie add on to make the bundle look good
I have a hand me down IPhone and a £10 a month pay as you go bundle and I get unlimited texts
I do use some because they are less intrusive than a phone call, people can reply when they’re free and better for just quick contact
But most of my peoples have iPhones or are on Facebook so there’s IMessages and Messenger too
I suppose some small businesses might use texts to communicate with customers, taxis, deliveries, things like that, unlimited might be good for them
I’ve just had one of my 5 a day.
Wow, I wish I could accumulate data like that! I have only 2gb a month - sometimes I use less, but occasionally I start to run out with several days to go and I have to limit my use. If my provider allowed unused data to roll over, I wouldn’t have a problem! I’m with Tesco, which uses O2 - not sure whether other providers in the UK roll over unused data, but I don’t think they do.
Don’t worry it gets even more ridiculous, because it is my birthday this month the telephone company made me a gift of an extra 6Gb of data. That is going to come in really handy!
Crazy, because they know how much data you’ve accumulated, so they know therefore that they’re giving you nothing at all.
I haven’t used 5000 texts since mobiles first came out. And if I live to be 100, I doubt I’ll have used that many by then either…
I guess the target Mobile Phone user is the big Company…
i.e the ones which give all of their employees a Company Mobile & then start sending them large group messages, and calls, day & night.
As in the PC world, the “man in the street” comes behind those big boys.
Like Bathsheba and Summer I’m a Whatsapper!
I can’t remember the last time I sent a text; probably about 2 months ago to keep the credit on my PAYG phone going.
I am a WhatsApp-er too! It’s marvellous that you can speak and message for free anywhere in the world. Maybe, they sell our phone numbers on?
How on earth do they do it, as there’s no advertising to make money.
They sell a lot of data about you, if it is free you are the product not the customer. Just remember Whatsapp is owned by Facebook (Meta) so everything they know about you is for sale.
What information does WhatsApp share with the Meta Companies?
WhatsApp currently shares certain categories of information with Meta Companies. The information we share with the other Meta Companies includes your account registration information (such as your phone number), transaction data (for example, if you use Facebook Pay or Shops in WhatsApp), service-related information, information on how you interact with businesses when using our Services, mobile device information, your IP address, and may include other information identified in the Privacy Policy section entitled ‘Information We Collect’ or obtained upon notice to you or based on your consent.
We limit the information we share with Meta in important ways. For example, we will always protect your personal conversations with end-to-end encryption, so that neither WhatsApp nor Meta can see these private messages. We don’t keep logs of who everyone’s messaging or calling and can’t see your shared location so we cannot and do not share this with Meta. We need your contacts to provide the service, but don’t share your contacts with Meta. You can learn more about some of these limitations here.
