Coffee at the cemetery

There’s a cemetery near me that I like to sit in with a drink: tea, coffee, juice etc, on a warm spring or summer’s day

I’m keen to take some low light pictures in olde church yards during the Autumn and Winter months. I have a certain type of rather interesting film to try out

I also have a very efficient little 0.5 litre steel thermos flask. I might just use some of my own “special” teabags, just for Dutch courage of course

You never know who you might bump into! :scream:

I have one of those too, they are OK but I found that it is very important to preheat them otherwise they just don’t keep as hot as the 1litre ones for as long.

Agreed Bruce,
I just pour some boiling water into it, put the stopper back in and leave it while I attend to preparing my drink of choice.
Quite a similar thing to using a teapot really, not that I’ve used one for ages!

I’m not sure that the capacity of the flask really matters.
Wouldn’t the surface area of the larger vessel cause it to cool down more quickly?
Physics was never one of my strong points…

We used thermos flasks regularly when traveling around the UK working years ago.
Those plastic Thermos flasks never seemed to keep hot, so we bought a couple of Vango steel flasks from the camping shop.
So much better, and i always pre-heated them first.

Remember those 70s thermos flasks?
Now those were fragile, the glass inserts seemed to be effective but…

I’m sure I broke a few on fishing trips!

That takes me back to family trips to Southend with flasks of tea, and spam sandwiches on the beach. :slightly_smiling_face:

Our new Crematorium has a coffee shop/cafe too. Perhaps its a new thing. Not been in ours though, prefer the Costa at the Golf club. :grinning: :grinning:
Just looked it up, it isn’t right by the crematorium, its a walking distance away. So I guess it’s OK not too near, they have rooms for functions too.

I’m wondering whether this thread is a preamble to Halloween. Do they celebrate in Australia?

Most likely would not have a cafe close to a crematorium. I was at a cemetery in Perth.
This one was frequented by Kangaroos. Whilst I was there, the crematorium was operating, black smoke coming from the top and the smell of the smoke was unpleasant. I would not want to be drinking coffee with that stench permeating all about.

The first Halloween celebrated here in Australia was over 150 years ago. Brought about by the Scottish and Irish who came to Australia for the gold rush.
Businesses have really started pushing the commercialisation of Halloween for the last decade or more now. It is slowly taking off here though in the whole scheme of things, not a lot of people participate.

No,actually the opposite is true, the larger the object the less the surface area in proportion to mass, hence less heat loss.

Ooh. I feel some maths coming on tomorrow. :grimacing::slightly_smiling_face::+1:

Please clarify what you mean by “larger” in this context.

You already have it in this context - one litre flask compared to 500ml but it applies to animals too, larger animals have less trouble conserving heat compared to small animals.

No need for any maths it has already been done.
