Churches And Gravestones

I started a Halloween fun facts thread - you do the ghost stories :slightly_smiling_face:

There was one graveyard where I entered by this entrance:

As I emerged from it I could see a few inhabitants among the stones, and standing about here and there. You will have to use your imagination because they are never visible on the photos.

At the base of the tower there was a small shabbily dressed man talking to a rather fat, well to do looking man. The little bloke was waving his arms about, and it didn’t seem like a friendly conversation. If you can see the stone cross to the right of the picture, partly hidden behind the foliage of the tree; there was a woman sat up against it with her head in her hands, who didn’t look at all happy. Then just to the lower left of centre, there is a gravestone that looks like a bench. Well there was a man in a top hat sitting on it, doing something that makes it fortunate that you can’t see him, because I would get into trouble for posting the photo if you could.

Our graveyard has one of those massive FWD wheelie bin things, most useful as the dog always seems to dump, in the Presence of the Lord.

That’s not a very Halloweeny anecdote, spitty, couldn’t you have made it a bit more unsettling?

It unsettles me.

If I miss one, on hallowed ground. :biking_man:

This graveyard is said to be haunted by the ghost of Alan Whicker, which is surprising as he lived nowhere near it and has no connection with it. He is sometimes seen, usually on a Wednesday evening at 9 pm., interviewing the other resident spirits.

Fair play, respect, you go the extra mile, anyone who does that, deserves respect.

A piece of tram track that was thrown over a row of houses by a high explosive bomb in Bristol during WW2 and landed in the graveyard of Saint Mary Redcliffe Church. It was left where it fell and a plaque placed to remind people of the event.

A font in the same church commemorating Bristol’s heritage as a seafaring city.

The remains of Saint Peter’s Church, Castle Park, Bristol, destroyed during WW2 and now left as a war memorial.

Lucky nobody was standing there at the time; that thing could have take someone’s eye out. :flushed:

Riddarholman Church, Stockholm

St Peter Ad Murum is reputed to be the oldest church in England, though there have been other claims to this title.

This is just an experiment to see if I am allowed to post on my own threads.

My experience on this sight has been quite strange for quite a few months now. It all started when I was suspended for rampaging through the forum with a deadly weapon, putting the lives of other members in peril. The suspension lasted one month, but on my return I was reduced in status to that of a new member, but, unlike a new member, my ability to rise to a higher level was blocked. In practice, this means that I cannot submit threads until they get approval, I cannot post photos, and I cannot send PMs. Also, I sometimes find that my replies per thread are restricted in number.

As I say, all this has been the case for quite some time now, but things have suddenly sunk to a new depth. I am now finding that I am only being allowed to make a couple of posts before I am told that new members who have only been here for one day have a posting limit. I find it all very strange. It’s almost as if the algorithms that run the sight have got it in for me. That is a ridiculous idea, of course, as I am sure that computing software is not yet capable of such petty mindedness. No, there must be a glitch somewhere in the system, that is the only explanation. Anyway, just in case I disappear altogether and people wonder where I have gone, I will probably have been terminated by said glitch. :slightly_smiling_face:

I wonder if that’s what your name being in light grey while everyone else’s is in dark grey means?

It sounds to me as if some special setting has been applied to your profile?

And I noticed on your profile you have no trust level listed at all. While everyone else’s trust level is displayed below their picture

What, you mean I’ve been singled out for special treatment? Surely not. :slightly_smiling_face:

Could it be an admin thing and after you got suspended you were never fully unsuspended? Perhaps there’s a box that hasn’t been ticked or something

I’m sure that greyed out name means something
