How long a con trail lasts is simply based upon the atmosphere the aircraft is flying in. A contrail lasts much longer in cold, humid air. The temperatures at altitude, even on a nice warm day, can be sufficent to cause the contrail to freeze, thus lasting much much longer.
In the same way, on a warm, low humidity day you do not normally see car exhausts. But on a cold, humid day, you often do.
And both highly polluting Geli, even if they are not spraying anything.
The rumour about âchemtrailsâ was probably started by the establishment.
While we concern ourselves with chemicals being sprayed which can easily be proved wrong, we are not dealing with the real problem of contaminating our upper atmosphere with the burning of thousands of tons of jet fuel. And what goes up, must come down.
Exactly & cars do as much damage to our atmosphere as aircraft & if anything cars, due to their numbers, cause as much, if not more damage. The height is immaterial, as fumes are in general lighter than air & thus rise. Which is why smog was an issue. It was caused by cold, moisture heavy atmosphere (weather.) Which kept the fumes low & caused more suffering to humans more quickly, more visably. In the same way contrails are more visable when conditions are cold & humid at that altitude.
Most pollution is heavier than air Geli, only methane (which is technically not a pollutant but a very inflammable green house gas, ask any miner) and is lighter than air. No pollution stays up in the atmosphere otherwise all that smog would still be circulating.
And at least, the pollution from vehicles doesnât drop on your head.
The rush to buy EVâs will soon reduce the vehicle problem (perhaps reduce it for us , but not for the children who have to mine the cobalt and lithium in far off lands) but it seems that the aircraft one will only get worse.
