Cheap or expensive camera lens?

As it is wet outside I have turned my thoughts to how good/bad are camera lenses? Is it worth getting an expensive lens or not? I am ruling out camera phones in this discussion
I suppose it all depends on one expectation. Do you want a “snap” or something better. Now I have had some “crap” camera lenses in the past as some may remember with an past contributer.
Getting more into the discusion colour reproduction straight from camera to me is important. In the past we had little option to accept whatever what photos we took . Not much choice in filters etc, now nearly everything one wants is in a modern camera.
lens weather sealing needs to be checked as some don’t have it .

Cameras have come such a long way in improvements can lenses keep up? in my opinion yes and no depending on manufacturer.
Of course cost comes into it in a big way and what kind of photos one takes. This is a whole new area I am not talking about here
Getting back to lenses , I am now tending to go for the higher price range but keeping costs to the minimum. To this end buying direct used from Japan certainly keeps the cost down, even after import duties etc. Of course one has to be well aware of the adverts from Japan but I have not yet got any complaint about the 4 purchased this way ,and saved a bundle on money.
Now being into the Panasonic range of cameras and lenses one gets to be able to spot a good or not so good lens by the description and extensive research on youtube before actual making a purchase.
One thing that does erk a bit is with telephoto lenses where the Fstop varies but no doubt cheaper to make.
In the past with my old good Nikon cameras and lenses camera shake was an issue. Now with built in image stablisation in the camera and lens (talking panasonic MFT range) this has all but disappeared. A great boon for us older members.

To sum up you can have a fantastic all singing and dancing camera but without a good quality lens ???

In the end if one is happy with what they use then fair enough. no complaints there.
