Central Heating Do You Have It?

I have an ancient Lenox hot air c/h boiler, took me ages to find a gas service firm that actually service these, so he comes every year to do it. I dread the day he’ll retire as he isn’t a young man. I only use gas for this, everything else is electric.

I’ve got gas central underfloor heating and a wood burning stove in the living room which I never use. The heating has been on for two weeks.

Wouldn’t want one but it looks good.

We had an old Vaillant Boiler in the UK…Had a contract for servicing it each year with the Gas Company…This time the Guy condemned it, so we gained estimates for a new Boiler…
…Picked one from Check a Trade…he was the average price for the supplying and fitting of a new boiler and the Control Box
Chose another Vaillant, but was necessary to have a combi by law…
Saved us around half on the new bills.
…We could also have it turned down lower than before. The water that drips from Combi’s was plumbed in so never caused an issue like some people had experienced.
New boiler’s are cleaner as well as much more efficient…Worth thinking about ST.

My thermostat is crazy and nothing to change that, tis’ a Hereditary thing

I have a little wireless gismo to control the central heating. Not the expensive ‘Hive’ but does what I ask. Very useful if its a bit nippy in the morning and the heating is not scheduled to come on.

We have central heating but I keep it low and have left a few of them off. But the real joy is the underfloor heating in the upstairs bathroom…

A search through Checkatrade with your post code and requirements will probably find what you are looking for. The most vulnerable part of your warm air system, after the boiler, is the fan motor and its associated bearings. That part can be repaired/replaced by any competent electro-mechanical service agent and a failed motor rewound to run again for several more years. Your system is one of the most reliable to have been produced since home heating systems have been supplied in new housing.

We have oil fired central heating and I love it. Our house is very light and always warm even without the heat on as it gets the sun due to large windows and the way it faces. I have a modern electric heater in the lounge with realistic flames in different colours but I just use it for effect.

If you need new storage heaters, high heat retention radiators are the way to go. We put them in a little house that we rent out and they are really good.

Yes, that is how I found the firm I use now. After our original boiler service man retired. The boiler was installed in 1973 in our new build house. It has had parts during that time, but works well. I found out that not all gas registered firms can repair/service Lenox hot air c/h systems. Most people in our road have changed their systems to others, so when this one has had it I’ve no idea what to go for. Just hope it sees me out.

The vendors of our bungalow had a brand-spanking new condenser boiler installed last September - just after we’d put down our deposit. Thanks, vendors, that saved us a couple of grand :+1:t3: because I’d noticed the old one looked really old and on its last legs when we viewed the property so we asked for the last boiler service sheet as part of the sales info pack. Besides the gas CH, we have a 2kW convector heater on standby if there’s ever a problem with the boiler.

I have warm air electric heating but it is not on yet . I have blocked off all the vents in the bedrooms, I only use one bedroom and I have the window wide open in there so heating it is pointless.

I have a tartan woollen blanket and hot water bottle for chilly evenings .
I haven’t progressed to woollen jumpers yet I am still wearing cotton, woolen jumpers come next then the heating.
