Canine Cushings Syndrome

Has anyone here any experience of looking after a dog with Cushings disease?

My middle one, Liffey, who is 9 years old, has just been diagnosed with this.
I have never had a dog with this illness before, so am looking information up, and trying hard to learn as much as I can, but would also appreciate any personal experience from others as well, please.

She is currently on medication, and will need regular monitoring blood tests in order to adjust the meds, and get the condition stable.

Thanks for any input.

No experience, Mups, sorry but I have been told to watch out for it in John.

I found a link with info?

Mups the link from Pixie Knuckles seems to give a balanced account of Canine Cushings Syndrome & it sounds tlke there will be need for many blood tests … which are expensive.
You seem to have a good vet , who has cared for you other dogs well, so I would be tempted to follow his advice.
I really hope both you and Liffey are able to give her a few more years happy life, but don’t read too much on the internet as I have found that it is often depressing when you look at certain illnesses for pets.
Liffey is a well cared for dog, just like all your others, but you can only do your best to keep her safe and happy. :hugs:

@Mups No experience myself but a couple I know their dog Tug was diagnosed with Cushing’s he put on a little weight and had a bit of thinning hair if I recall he was about10 then and was 14 when he was PTS he was a Staff and that’s a reasonable/good age for them he was on medication. Tug was well monitored and lived a normal happy life as I am sure your beloved Liffey will.

Mups I am so sorry to hear this
Unfortunately I do have experience
My poor dog had cushings he was only seven
They develop an insatiable thirst and sometimes become incontinent .His skin became very thin and fragile .
My dog was had other medical problems and I don’t know that the medication he was on for them caused the cushings .
I was disappointed that the vet treating him missed it and I went to another vet who diagnosed it .

@Mups I am so sorry to hear this. I don’t have any experience of Cushings, but it sounds as if your vet is on the ball, and Liffey will have the best of care. Just make every moment with her count. ((((Hugs)))) to you xxx
