Yesterday I watched a guy attempt to park in a marked bay in a shopping center car park.
Back, fill, back , fill, back fill.
I watched him do this 7 times before I drove off.
Honestly, some people should not have a drivers license.
I know what you mean. It doesn’t bother me, it more like internment to me. Keep thinking, your gone get it this time, your going to get it this time, your going to get it this time, not.
Practice, Practice, Practice
Funnily enough I can’t seem to line my car up when I’m driving into a space, it’s this car as I’ve never had any problems with other cars I have had in the past, however, I can activate the front camera to guide me in better or, I can reverse in using the cars auto park facility…
People’s aspirations differ. What some people consider good enough parking is unacceptable in other people’s eyes. Perhaps that guy belonged to the latter. Parking space is rare and parking spots are increasingly used up by SUVs. Sometimes I wish other drivers had parked more carefully. If two cars are not parked in the middle of the lines, a third car driver might not have enough space to open the doors and get out of the car conveniently.
I certainly can Bretrick,i have park assist on my car but i will not use it in-case i lose the ability.
You have just highlighted my worst criticism of many drivers on our roads today. I blame insufficient maneuvering instruction and practice during their learning hours.
I enjoy watching a local Co-op delivery waggon in my area, and what a display of honed driving skill that event is. It’s a very tight double turn and a difficult task without rear wheel steering on the waggon. The usual lassie at the wheel aways puts on a great show of tight reversing skills
I’ve got out of the habit of reversing into spaces. Might have lost my touch for it now. Years of having to go in forwards so the wheelchair ramp can be lowered into an open space.
Reverse parking was a health and safety requirement when I was working, but the habit has stuck with me and I find it easier when trying to get out of a crowded space as opposed to driving into one. The few times I don’t do it is there is a large space and unobstructed view next to the lines.
I can, however, cheat a little because my car can self-park and will reverse itself into a tight space - problem is I have never tried it because I don’t trust it.
So true. I am the careful driver who makes several attempts to back in. I do use the camera to aid and abet, but as Dachs says, some people leave insufficient space and there are those who are almost on the line. I went from a Micra to a Juke and notice the difference. More than 4 years on I still try to be careful. (Especially after I pranged two cars on two different occasions).
I always make sure I’m perfectly between the lines. It angers me when people just ‘dump’ their cars at any old angle. Be respectful please. We have to open the door once we are parked!
I do often wonder how the driver of the 2 inches away from the next car got out?

Use the force graham, I’ve used mine a couple of times , it’s quite eerie at first but it parks perfect, it help with mine as it has collision avoidance so won’t crash into anything, my last car had it but it was a manual, this one is an auto and it’s much easier.
I’m usually ok parking between the lines with my little Corsa. The thing that I find annoying is that the parking spaces now are often too narrow for the SUVs that many folks drive nowadays giving limited room to open the car door.
If you park in an empty car park some moron is bound to park right next to you so you can’t get back into your car
What is it about certain people who feel the need to sidle up next to you when camping, sitting in a restaurant, choosing a set in an airport (and eating dried fish), choosing a quiet spot in a library? Even birds know to keep a respectful distance from one another .
I may be disastrous at some things, but I am the parallel parking extraordinaire in my family .
My father was an excellent driver especially with the farm tractors and trailers. I wasn’t too bad myself…
Yes
Driving vehicles where you had to use the doors mirrors to reverse park (vans etc) aided that skill, i always reverse park into a space
A point i would like to make though, is quite simply that, car parking spaces have a minimum requirement, coupled with the fact that most car park operators want to squeeze in as many spaces as possible for revenue and to cope with as many customers as they can
Unfortunately these size requirements were set many years ago and do not compensate for todays modern vehicles, hence the potential problems
Good luck with trying to get those minimum requirements re assessed though!
