Came across my first snake for the new season

Dugite - Spotted Brown Snake
This one was sunning itself on the road. I was able to get very close and it showed me no aggression.
Dugites are very dangerous and if untreated after being bitten, humans can, and do die.
The last death by a Dugite in Western Australia was a 41 year old male, in 2014, he was bitten multiple times on hand and arm while trying to grab and kill the snake.
He refused first aid and collapsed and died 45 minutes later.
This one was about 600mm - 2 feet long

I hate snakes, came across an adder in the longish grass in the forest one day, gave me a heck of a fright as it rose up hissing. But so glad it wasn’t the dog who was with me, Dageus would have ended up bitten as he would have examined it not got the hell out of the way.

I’d love to encounter an adder!
I take your point though, a bite for us grown ups is unlikely to be fatal, for dogs though a different matter.

I have seen a couple this spring both young. Just an Eastern Brown and a Red Belly Black, the former is the second most venomous snake in the world apparently, the latter eats Brown Snakes’ young for breakfast

Love the imaginative way they have been named.
