why called a cold shoe height extender and not a hot shoe one. This is because there is no electrical contacts from camcorder to microphone which a hot shoe does
why get one ?
Well the microphone wind cheater (deadcat) I own for particular windy days does have longer than normal hairs from a specialist supplier in Germany as seen in the above photo. Unfortunately the also partly cover the camcorder front and shows in the videos .
So this extender( Photoconic) took some finding believe me. Most of this type are advertised for Sony (hot shoe type) not for Panasonic or other makes.
Another thing is getting the extender footplate to line up with the microphone footplate so the microphone faces forward. This extender overcomes this quite cleverly to my way of thinking. what you do is fit it first to the camcorder cold show so it is square on then tighten down the allen screw (not seen others with) which is in the middle. Then when the microphone is fitted on top it is facing the right way.
