Burrow Mump, Glastonbury Tor's little brother

Burrow Mump is Glastonbury Tor’s little brother. The latter is topped by a church that collapsed during an earthquake, then just the tower was rebuilt.
Burrow Mump is a low hill sticking up from the Somerset Levels with a ruined church upon its top.

We had an afternoon out to celebrate my Aunty MiL’s 82th birthday today, and we stopped by the Mump for a brew.

That’s it, over there.

A little bit about it.

My quest today was to climb that steep little hill. Due to my health problems, I took a spiral route to the top.

It will be nice when it’s finished.

A few views from the windswept top. This should answer the question, "Why is this part of Somerset known as “The Levels”.

I’m not sure what was going on here, but a series of wide trenches were being dug.

The Mump car park where my Lovely Cousin was making a brew in our little camper van.

The birthday girl waving to me.

Terrific pictures, the trenches are rather intriguing, Time Team springs to mind.
I’ll have to do some googling this evening when I’m settled.

I only wish I could blow the cobwebs off my Laser Trident and pop down to Somerset for a bit of a scan but I’m fairly confident that they wouldn’t let me

Hopefully next time you’ll be able to run up it.
Those old church goers must have been fit in body as well as soul.
