BT Landline Query

Just another name for a router basically.

Because your area won’t have been converted and you, like me, still have the copper wire connection.

I recently changed my landline and broadband from Talktalk to SSE. Big mistake. My new SSE setup required my landline phone to be connected into the VOIP socket in the router. The usual phone connection on the BT master socket was dead. Under the new setup my phone kept cutting out. I even bought new BT dect phones with no success. I have changed back to Talktalk and my phone is back plugged into the master socket. The engineer had to change something in an outside cabinet.

Mine is on Virgin, as well,

I did read that that BT were walking away from landline phones, that was only a few months ago.

Virgin have said nothing, yet, but they may be hooked to BT exchanges themselves.

Ive quite often thought about ditching the land phone in favour of a mobile phone on contract.
If Virgin decide to ditch land lines then I guess that will make my mind up for me :grinning:

I do not have a landline phone though I still have the copper wire connection as I cannot justify or really need fibre to the premises. I use my mobile for all calls.

Oh the Landlines !

Gave up on landlines years ago .
There are so many good deals on Mobiles these days so we use them for all our phone calls.
Save Money ditch that landline !

@wendeey I’m a BT landline and Broadband user … I’ve received nothing either.
Hope you’ve got it sorted.

Morti the link MrFraggle kindly posted answered a lot of my questions.

According to the letter I’ll soon be receiving an email to give me the switchover date and it also says it will be sending me a postcard to let me know if I need any extra equipment and how to order it free before the switchover day.

As it looks like it’s going to be a big task I would say they are doing areas one at a time and I must be one of the first, they’ve got until 2025 to do it.

I could be wrong (unlikely) but I think BT are moving away from analogue systems which is the way you receive your landline calls Wendee. When you plug into the router it will be digital data that converts into speech for your standard phone…

It was so much simpler when I was a kid … I can remember two tin cans either end of a length of rope…

Good luck with that, I’m having panic attacks already lol

Am I supposed to understand that lol All I know is that currently my landline is on the copper wires, but now it will be going through the internet so it will be the same as talking to somebody on zoom or something like that, but without being able to see them although I suppose you would be able to depending on what phone you get.

That’s right Wendee, BT are currently providing two means of communication down one wire. It will save them lots of money to just concentrate on the one method. Hopefully it should reduce our phone bills…

Morti just to let you know mine’s all set up now and it’s as easy as pie.

You can just plug your landline directly into the hub, there’s a sticker currently over the hole just take that off and plug that in.

If you have another phone they send you an adaptor and all you have to do is press the curly arrow symbols on your hub and then press the same button on the adaptor and plug the phone into that.

And they also sent me two other phones and all you have to do is press the curly arrow buttons on the hub and it connects to the phone all you need to do is plug that phone into a normal socket.

All you have to do is order what you want and they send it to you for free.
