Brexit benefits - where are they?

it’s 7 years since the 2016 referendum. You said we have to wait 10 more years to see any benefits. Therefore in total 17 years so 2033. Or did you mean we are going to start seeing all these benefits in the next 3 years?

Initially, following the referendum, I envisaged it would take about 10 years to fully implement the benefits that Brexit promised. However, I later had to take into account events out of our control when the pandemic occurred. My best guess now is it will take another 5 years approximately - with the proviso that nothing else of that magnitude happens. I can see that I was being a little unfair commenting for a second time on your Maths skills when you obviously didn’t have access to the full extent of my thought processes … so I apologise for that. I know that you probably will disagree with my optimism so I think we should wait for that 5 years to pass before discussing it again :relaxed:

I agree with the principle of your suggestion - just not the timescale of 5 years. It seems likely that the 2024 general election will include debate on Brexit and its consequences - the various parties plans for how to make it work best. I’m happy to sit back on this topic until next year but 5 years would be to ignore likely changes of fortune or other Brexit related events.

That sounds reasonable to me. It will be interesting to see where each political party stands in relation to Brexit when the hustings start - though how much weight we can put on promises made remains to be seen!

The word ‘Promise’, and the word ‘lie’, niow mean much the same, poitically!

We even allow our MPs to break any promise made, without our ever asking for an explanation.

That is what is going to make the next election so difficult isn’t it? In the past I’ve always known which party I would vote for and that I could trust them to generally do what their manifesto promised. However, these last few years have demonstrated a very different scenario making it nigh on impossible to know which party should get my vote.

Those wanting to rejoin the EU would be happy with the UK as it is now because quite honestly, we have left the EU in name only. Apart from new trade deals being made, we are still hamstrung with EU regulations because we have a non-competition order within the TCA.

Anyone that thinks that rejoining the EU will improve the UK are talking our their arse. We would have what we have now and be paying billions and billions a year more for it just to wear the EU badge.

What we need is to tear up the TCA, the Irish Protocol and every other EU law. Then we will start to see some real Brexit Benefits.

For those people complaining about UK politicians:

I definitely do not want to re-join the EU. I’d love to know where the billions we are meant to have saved through leaving have ended up.

I have no idea. I try to avoid any news articles which mentions him.

My prediction is that Brexit will be conveniently forgotten in the next few years. It’s likely there will be a new geo-political structure for the UK/Europe in the pipeline by 2030. This will make Brexit obsolete. It’s a case of you don’t know what you have until it’s gone.

Furlough, Energy subsidies, Cost of Living supplements???

I have analysed your post Pipsqueak .
First sentence ‘ I envisaged ‘ - so no proof or eveidence just your vision .

‘ my best guess now ‘

What about your best guess next week / next year ?
What about my best guess ?
What about Fred Bloggs best guess ?
Anyone can guess it doesn’t make it fact .

‘My best guess now is it will take another 5 years approximately - with the proviso that nothing else of that magnitude happens. ‘

So your best guess ( and that’s only approximately as long as nothing else happens )

What a load of NON FACTS
The world might end aliens might invade so just about anything might happen that make your approximate best guess wrong !:rofl::rofl:

Of course no one has access to your thought processes .

But it’s quite clear what they are WISHFUL THINKING !

I don’t think “wait and see” is for me.:rage:

Those who voted and campaigned for Brexit are responsible for the hardships now and more to come and shouldn’t be allowed to wriggle out of the blame by prevaricating

Nor should they be allowed to control the discussion and fully justified anger and criticism by saying “we don’t know yet, so don’t discuss it”

The Brexiters blighted our countries future, diminished our childrens opportunities and shamed us internationally

There are no benefits now, there will be none in the future, there were never any possible benefits, and the only solution is to beg to get back in while putting the blame for all the crap that is ensuing firmly on the Brexiter’s doorstep

Oh yes, I know what you mean. I cannot stand listening to that man :see_no_evil:

Maybe people will get used to not having workers right and the other benefits which will cease to exist once the 3000 nasty “EU rules” were removed. Once they have experienced that for a few years nobody will remember Brexit. It is like turning back the clock some decades.

P. S.: this is only my personal view or guess, It does not contain any entitlement for valuation :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Why 5 years ? It’s been 2 yrs already …now’s the time to discuss
as some of us wont be around in five years time.

Thank you for your analysis Muddy, now you can accurately see that it is my PERSONAL opinion - I hadn’t realised that PERSONAL opinions weren’t allowed on this forum. Thank you for putting me right on that, I have so much more to worry about at the moment than to be concerned with what you think about what I say, although I respect your right to have a PERSONAL opinion even though I might not agree with it, which is more than I can say about your reaction to mine.

I am sorry you don’t like it Pipsqueak but opinions personal or otherwise to be credible are best to be supported by facts .
You haven’t given any .
Just a vague intangible nebulous glance into a possible future .
When you put up a personal opinion then you must expect it to challenged there is no disrespect involved at all .
