No one knows really, let the dead horse sleep, FGS.
The fact that both economies are in decline is hardly something to cheer about surely?
Wasn’t this voted for circa 2014? Why has it taken so long… When you want to do anything as a mere mortal, you’ve to hurry up if you’re told… You’ve got 6 months, 30 days yadiyada…
As far as I know in 2023 the deal hasn’t been finalised yet or is that just weird kind of news lately?
I’ve yet to hear what the benefits will be…
There aren’t any .
It has been finalised we are out .
Hi
An awful lot of figures being thrown about on this thread.
The most misleading is GDP, far more accurate is GDP per head of population.
France is very slightly ahead of the UK, but we are both well down the list.
How many Free Trade Agreements we have is irrelevant, it is what benefit we get from them that matters.
Your half right.
And Paris is on fire and the riots are spreading. Let’s see how this works out.
Another high performing country destroyed by socialism
The number of FTA’s are very relevant Swimmy. It proves the UK was never protectionist.
No it doesn’t. Australia was very protectionist until the Hawke/Keating government removed all import duties and tariff protections to make the country more competitive on the international market. Now we have something like 16 FTAs but it definitely doesn’t mean we weren’t once very protectionist.
All FTAs tell you is that the country is desperate for trade to improve its economy
No country can resist the pull of the Global.
Funny that, the EU are very clear that they are investing - and very similar to the US plan.
Recovery plan for Europe - European Commission.
800 bn euro recovery plan. The one you are delighted that the UK is not part of. And don’t split hairs with a claim that the EU investment is in the end funded by debt. Same as the US recovery plan is funded by debt.
Strange how you simply deny basic facts. No EU investment in a recovery plan, but follow the link and look there it is. Austerity was caused by Labour - and yet there was Osborne and Cameron launching the austerity programme (following the banking crisis). Do you like politicians like Trump and Johnson because they also prefer fiction to fact?
Australia was never in the EU which is a protectionist trading block.
EU (Eurozone) recovery is funded by debt. You have no centralised treasury or taxation policy and you have a common external tariff covering 27 different trading nations, most of which are in the Eurozone. Your German manufacturing is on a lifeline, in recession and France is burning. Good luck with paying off the 800 Billion (it’s way more than that by the way and with interest rates much higher in the EU than in other countries, that amount is growing by the day).
How many net contributors are left in the EU who will be paying for your Recovery Plan for Europe ?
We left… Bye !
And austerity was caused by Labour, a vote for them is always a vote for austerity further down the line.
Meanwhile, Finland joins NATO and now the member states have shifted from the EU Army pipe dream and instead opted for the United States of NATO.
The EU can’t protect its member states… this message is not popular in Brussels at all, but hey ho
But, as you well know, the US recovery plan is funded by debt.
Let’s ignore your wild and empty claims about France and Germany. This thread is about the UK and the lack of benefits following Brexit. The UK is now out on an austerity limb with the US and the EU embarking on huge initiatives to drive economic growth. It seems much more likely that isolated Britain will fall behind as these recovery programmes pick up a head of steam. That, to me, is a real cause for concern.
This is a definite Brexit benefit, we’ve got enough punk bands of our own without having German ones too lol:
They will be back, in a small boat
Great that you highlight this issue for performers. Brexit has had a terrible impact on UK performers trying to play in Europe. Thanks. Definitely not a Brexit benefit. You are such an advocate of the problems of Brexit.
My friends (and I) work in the music industry. The reason there are so many problems for touring bands and music technicians working on long term projects is the lack of clarity around the EU visa system. It’s the same for other countries outside the EU as well such as USA. It’s always been like this.
Nothing to do with Brexit.
Hi
The world has changed since we voted leave.
The pandemic has resulted in Countries wanting to shorten supply chains ans manufacture more at home.
The war in the Ukraine has highlighted energy supply issues.
The UK is still trying to deregulate, particularly in Financial Services.
Other Countries are not interested, Swiss Banks where safe, they aren’t now following the failure of Credit Suisse.
As usual our Politicians are not reacting quickly enough and others are getting an edge.
I was gonna add something like that along similar lines, but thought I’d better not lol
