Flying back from Majorca a few weeks ago the staff announced that since Brexit people could now bring back 4 bottles of spirits instead of 1. There was also an announcement about cigarettes but can’t remember that one. Hands went up everywhere and we were staggered at how much people spent.
My gut feeling reading that article is that pro eu have done their worst, now for the UK exit to be done as it should have been SIX years ago.
Sounds lovely, but I’m always a tad wary of such a one sided article, irrespective of which side it’s favouring.
If it goes pear-shaped the consequences will be dire. Last chance saloon for the government and Conservative Party.
i refuse to pay for anything that is overpriced, regardless where it comes from.
@RoseRed EU exposed; a perfect example of what it is really about.
Control over individuals.
'United in diversity ', the motto.
One person’s over-priced is another person’s reasonable value. Hence the sales of German cars in the UK. There are plenty of people who perceive such cars as good value given the vehicle they obtain. And hence the balance of trade figures. Which will continue to show higher imports even though we are out of the single market.
The legal customs limit is indeed 4 litres. Before when we were in the EU there was no limit. Your flight crew did a could job of misrepresenting the change to 4 litres.
Bloody hell! we can only bring in 2.25litres of alcohol and tobacco is now a prohibited import.
Not that I bother bringing in either.
Not the express again ,
Right wing Tory rubbish that they think will convince the ignorant plebs .
This is a red top weedey
As I’ve said before:
And just for Muddy one from The Guardian:
She meant what they could buy on the plane. i didn’t word that very well.
Aside from that we were amazed that some people were spending nearly £200 on booze and fags.
Please stop saying it .
Neither of these articles even from the Guardian deal with the Benefits of Brexit .
One is pie in the sky and the other gives reasons why it’s not a disaster.
Neither is really on topic as the topic is Benefits.
They are on topic, discussing newspapers isn’t. I suggest as you enjoy discussing them so much you start a thread about them.
The Express article " Post-Brexit bonfire of trade red tape to deliver £20bn export boost for UK economy" Isn’t the Express’s views it’s what Greg Hands said in the HoC so you can check it in Hansard if you wish.
I read the Express article and to be honest it is a bit misleading, the UK government isn’t removing trade barriers it is negotiating with other countries to remove their barriers. As you say it is a pollie’s words and his job is to mislead.
The biggest prize in sight seems to be to join the CPTPP but what is Britain going to give away to join this FTA? This agreement used to include the USA but Trump put the kibosh on that so the remaining countries renegotiated it among themselves. It is not exactly something new - the UK applied to join 18 months ago. You can read about it here:
On 1 February 2021, the United Kingdom (UK) formally requested accession to the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP), and on 2 June 2021, the CPTPP Commission agreed to formally commence accession negotiations with the United Kingdom.
These things can take years.
Greg Hands was and is very pro EU he voted against Brexit.
He cannot remove trade barriers he can only negotiate and bear in mind that we the U.K. are supplicants and therefore in a weak position.
That is not a benefit .
Yep, time, nonnegotiable.
