I’m not sure that a quote by Joseph Goebbels is a clever method of advising us on how lies work.
He was persistent with it, but most, over here, would believe nothing he said.
On the other hand, we sometimes go to great lengths to try to understand what our Politicians, and the Media, are telling us, and even salesmen, and our friends.
It finally comes down to what they say and the way they say it. The information received is rarely enough to allow us to understand.
Belief in something is not dependent upon the Internet you know.
Ceating fake news influences opinions too - which then influences a result.
Like the pro-EU mob tried with Brexit, though that failed … twice.
Exactly ! I have little doubt that a few people cheated with their votes. Probably we could find some on both political sides. However, it is overwhelmingly clear that Trump’s campaign of disinformation about massive voter fraud has failed.
In case after case, in state by state, Trump’s trolls have been unable to show any voter fraud. Lots of shouting, but no proof.
What is truly sad is that anyone could believe a single thing Trump says.
Indeed ! Now that Georgia has hand counted, and examined every single ballot, and the Georgia Secretary of State has certified the results, Biden is the indisputable victor.
However, I am very much more concerned that Trump is now attempting to intimidate election officials. This is the type of thing expected of a banana republic. All I can say is, ‘Thank, God, that Trump does not have the power to turn the military loose on our government.’
We have stringent laws in place, most notably The U.S. Constitution, which prohibits any president from using U.S. troops on U.S. soil except to enforce the Constitution. Example: way back in the 1950’s, when the state of Alabama tried desperately to prohibit blacks from attending public schools, President Eisenhower, used the National Guard to force the racist governor George Wallace to admit blacks into public schools. Important note: the only way President Eisenhower was able to do that was because the U.S. Supreme Court had already ruled that ALL PEOPLE, REGARDLESS OF COLOR, HAD A CONSITUTIONALLY PROTECTED RIGHT TO ATTEND PUBLIC SCHOOLS.
Trump, however, has no such right to use troops to keep him in office. Moreover, by attempting to intimidate election officials, Trump is flirting with treason.
Trumps attempts to overturn the election crashes when he invited the REPUBLICAN leaders of both the Michigan Senate and House to the White House and tried to pressure them. Both of the REPUBLICAN leaders stated quite firmly that there was no evidence of widespread voter fraud in Michigan.
That, plus the certification of Georgia’s hand count, clearly establishes that Biden had won the U.S. election.
President fails to persuade Michigan lawmakers to switch votes
The top two Republicans in Michigan’s state legislature met Trump at the White House but emerged to pour cold water on the notion that they would try to intervene and undo the more than 150,000 vote margin by which Mr Biden won the state.
“We have not yet been made aware of any information that would change the outcome of the election in Michigan and as legislative leaders, we will follow the law and follow the normal process regarding Michigan’s electors,” said Mike Shirkey and Lee Chatfield, the Michigan Senate leader and House speaker respectively. The candidates who win the most votes win elections and Michigan’s electoral votes,” their statement added.
The meeting at the White House came after a Trump campaign adviser had talked up the idea that the battleground state’s lawmakers could unilaterally declare Mr Trump the winner if the votes were not certified.
Bakerman please tell me this will be over soon. I thought the legal process had a deadline of sorts. It’s not easy to find any kind of accurate update in the UK press or media.
I wish I could tell you it will be over soon. Unfortunately, we are experiencing something which has never happened before.
Al Gore, in 2000, did not concede for 32 days until the Florida ballots were minutely examined in great detail. However, neither Gore nor George Bush was president. That contest was not settled until The U.S. Supreme Court made a ruling.
There are numerous deadlines: county deadlines, state deadlines and, of course the final electoral college deadline in December.
However, Trump is currently attempting to subvert the process by pressuring individual electoral college persons to “go rouge” and ignore the will of the people and vote how Trump wants. Quite frankly, I am a tad frightened. Not because Trump may finally get his way, but rather because of the tremendous damage Trump is doing to American democracy. We now have an American Mussolini and there is no telling what he may do.
No, I seriously doubt it. The U.S. has never experienced a president that cared more for his own personal power than the greater good of the nation. Terra incognita.
There is serious discussion among Constitutional scholars about what COULD happen if Trump flatly refuses to leave the White House. Spooky. I kid you not.
(DEEP SIGH) If you honestly believe such nonsense then you also might be interested in buying some genuine alien artifacts that I have. Just send me a bank draft and they can belong to YOU.
Trump faces pressure from Republicans to drop ‘corrosive’ fight to overturn election
Former Trump national security adviser John Bolton said that Biden would be sworn in in January and added: “The real question is how much damage Trump can do before that happens.”
Bolton noted that the Trump campaign has so far lost all but two of more than 30 legal challenges in various states.
Indeed … that’s how bad it looks from the outside …
