Yes I agree, and that is why I say they are selfish.
You wait till the Easter break!
Exactly this.
Once the sun is out people will go nuts as the weekend has shown us yet again.
I saw a post earlier saying that Oz and other countries have managed to keep the virus under better control but those places aren’t here; they have different demographics and a whole different set of variables.
The virus isn’t done yet either.
Much of this part of Europe has a very similar set of Covid statistics once a few variables are taken into consideration.
I’ve no doubt that vaccinations will help us return to a new “normal” but the selfish ones determined to blithely carry on as they have always done will be the ones that put the mockers on that if anything does.
Hancock denies quarantine delays put lives at risk
Health Secretary Matt Hancock has denied delays in imposing quarantine hotel measures on travellers to the UK had put lives at risk.
It comes as officials seek a person in England who has been infected with a concerning variant of the virus first found in Brazil.
Mr Hancock said there was “no evidence” the infected person had not followed home quarantine rules.
Asked by BBC political editor Laura Kuenssberg if the delay to hotel quarantine measures could have put lives at risk, the health secretary said “no”.
The missing person infected with the variant is understood to have used a home testing kit, but did not complete their registration form properly.
Earlier, Vaccines minister Nadhim Zahawi said it was not known whether or not the unidentified person had recently been abroad, so it was not clear if they would have been self-isolating while they were infected.
Prime Minister Boris Johnson said the UK had one of the “toughest border regimes anywhere in the world” and said the government had moved “as fast as we could” with introducing hotel quarantine measures.
Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab said the UK’s border restrictions were “robust” and that variants were “a normal feature of any pandemic”.
Former health secretary Jeremy Hunt told BBC Radio 4’s The World at One the discovery of the six cases showed the need for tighter controls and the government had “to look at what has gone wrong”.
Public Health England’s Dr Susan Hopkins said they were tracking the Brazilian variant “very closely” because it shared mutations with a variant first found in South Africa which have been “associated with reduced impact of antibodies against the virus in laboratory experiments”.
She said it was “extremely rare” for someone not to provide their full contact details and said PHE was doing “everything they can to track down the individual”.
Obfuscations and contradictions …
But they were people from here who seem to be able to go on holiday to Brazil and come back during lockdown. Then to come back and go home without being detained in a hotel. In fact one person didn’t bother filling in their details so they have no idea who they are.
I think they were doing that but depends on the country you’re flying from because not all countries have the same medical facilities and who knows whether you can trust their tests.
Presumably they have sent out a lot of kits without marking them with individual details. it’s probably a generic test kit in an envelope addressed to someone. The individual fills in a form and sends it back. The one they can’t identify didn’t bother to put their details on the form. So probably like finding a needle in a haystack.
Just when you think things are getting better, you go out and come back with a ‘Brazilian!’…
The three Aberdeen cases were oil workers returning home. The flight from Heathrow was on January 29th and their employers put them in isolation for 10 days. They tested positive when in isolation. Passengers on the flight are being contacted.
There’s always one.
Search for mystery case narrows to 379 households
The search for an individual infected with the Covid variant first found in Brazil has narrowed to 379 households in south-east England, Health Secretary Matt Hancock has said.
He said the batch of home testing kits in question had been identified and each household was being contacted.
No rush, Matt … in your own time …
No news is bad news … has the infected individual been located … ?
ignorance is bliss as they say.
They are going to have to go back to numbering these variants. There are going to be lots and lots of them.
Exclusive: Oxford study indicates AstraZeneca effective against Brazil variant, source says
'Preliminary data from a study conducted at the University of Oxford indicates that the COVID-19 vaccine developed by AstraZeneca PLC is effective against the P1, or Brazilian, variant, a source with knowledge of the study told Reuters on Friday.
The data indicates that the vaccine will not need to be modified in order to protect against the variant, which is believed to have originated in the Amazonian city of Manaus, said the source, who requested anonymity as the results have not yet been made public.
The source did not provide the exact efficacy of the vaccine against the variant. They said the full results of the study should be released soon, possibly in March.’
Mystery UK person with Brazil variant found
A mystery person infected with the Covid variant of concern first found in Brazil has now been traced.
Last week, it was announced that six cases of the P.1 variant had been found in the UK - but one of the cases was still unknown.
It is understood public health officials have found the person and traced all of their contacts.
No further details.
A mystery person in the UK infected with the Covid variant lives in Croydon.
The person was finally identified when they called the NHS 111 number, after officials had spent days contacting potential households. The person lived in a household that had recently returned from Brazil and all of them had quarantined at home.
What if they hadn’t quarantined at home but visited friends and relatives all over the UK … :?:
It’s taken nearly a week and the so-called “tracing” services failed to find the infected person … a significantly unimpressive performance …
They have found the person and he has been self isolating .
Personally I think they did the right thing by quarantining at home, they did not spread virus further. There were no ‘what ifs’, they have been found.
Good job done, I say.
But what if they hadn’t quarantined at home … ?
The “tracing” services never found them - if they’d been on the loose, they could have easily infected enough to cause one or more outbreaks … !
… and why were their contact details not recorded correctly - border control and associated services are hardly overwhelmed at the moment …
… but they had quarantined! … that’s all you need ‘worry’ about.
You appear to have a habit of blaming the government in every bit of news you snip from the media.
