It’s a shame as they were iconic and very impressive up close. I remember driving past one and thinking wow.
The village shown on the video is where I live Annie.
I remember as a kid, travelling up and down between England and Scotland, and passing the Halifax cooling towers. I was in awe of them. They fell too, eventually, didn’t they…
Did you watch the towers being demolished?
That was one brave digger driver!
Only on youtube Annie, they were done on a Sunday morning so I would be out on my long run…
I did see the 400 foot high chimneys come down though, they were felled using explosives.
Hi OGF you make england sound almost normal again - you certainly are a battler if not perhaps a slightly crazy one! any scientific views on covid at all or is that on another thread? steady now watch the old bp!!
Foxy is leaving the building for a few days, so I wish everyone a very Happy New Year, so talk amongst yourselves until I return…
I hope you enjoyed your New Year break, Bob.
Thanks Mags, and a happy new year to you and Mr Mags…xx…
Some photos to follow…
But first…This mornings sunrise observed while on my early five mile walk…
Sunrise over a very frosty field…
New Year in Scarborough.
After unpacking and supping the obligatory mug of Yorkshire Tea, we stepped out for our first glimpse of Scarborough at night…Overlooking the South Bay and harbour with the lighthouse far right.
this was the digs for the next three nights…
An early morning brisk walk over and into the North Bay revealed several surfers.
Looking back over the North Bay to Scalby Mills and the sealife centre in the distance…
Up to the castle and into the South Bay, and still before breakfast…
Shopping on New Years Eve and a busy Town Centre…
Party Time, and photos before throwing a few shapes on the dance floor…
An early morning walk past the harbour before breakfast on New Years Day after just four hours sleep.
Rubber legs after climbing over two hundred steps, but worth the view over the South Bay.
Midday and the crowds are gathering to watch the swimmers go for a dip in the sea. All for charity of course…
Off they go in fancy dress into about 5* C seawater…Brrrrrrrrr
Maybe I’ll have a go next year…
Time to leave Scarborough for home, but first a visit to Robin Hoods Bay and a very steep hill.
Thankfully my daughter provided the transport as I’m not allowed to get behind the wheel yet.
Some lovely pictures and memories there, Foxy.
Looks like you had a good time.
Wow! Wonderful photos Bob!
Stunning sunrise pics. Scarborough seafront looks well lit for the festive season. Your hotel looks very welcoming with the lights and Christmas trees.
That’s a great photo of you in your new glasses , they really suit you!
Looks like you had plenty of exercise there too, I hope you didn’t overdo it.
Happy New Year Mups…xx
Thankyou Foxy, and you too. X
Lovely photos OGF - were you not tempted to join the swimmers?
I’m tempted every year that we watch them Annie… Only having had my ICD implant a fortnight ago I had to abstain this year…
Thanks Mags, I’m glad you liked my new glasses…
It’s the first time we have been away since April 2020 except for the odd days out.
Yes, the hotel is very nice but not cheap! After our seventh visit for the new year festivities we had decided to try somewhere else next year, but the staff make us very welcome, the food is to die for and the same friends turn up every year so we booked for next year…
My new years resolution is to do something every day (walk or perhaps jog if I’m able) but I won’t even attempt to jog yet until I’ve had my one month visit to the cardiac doctor.
I’ve managed to do a five mile walk every day since the new year and I seem to be getting better by the day, yesterday was my best day yet even though it was pouring with rain and the lane was a mess…Axle deep mud for two miles…
Going to try a six mile walk this morning before daughter and hubby come for their Sunday dinner…
Thick fog outside and a layer of frost that resembles snow. The thermometer reads minus 3*C but before I can have my lunch I need to go out and slip and slide round my five mile route. The good news is: All the mud and puddles will be frozen up so I won’t have to clean my shoes when I get home…A swollen ankle with gout seems to have abated after an Ibuprofen…
