Bob's Bits.

I’d go for a Solar Powered Truck, but where would it go after sundown?
I’m thinking deserted charging stations will be Mugging Society spots.
I suppose taking advantage of others will never end one way or the other.
My 2 petz sure take advantage of me.

That’s old news. Remember they got rid of the trams to replace them with internal combustion engine buses. Look at the mess that has resulted in. No good news there. Now everyone realised their mistake and is building trams.

Not around here they’re not Bruce. All our money is going into opening the airport that closed in 2022 because it didn’t make any money.

Doncaster Airport

I don’t see the connection. Every small town in Australia has an airport of some sort but trams are making a big comeback worldwide.

Just looked at your link @Bruce The only one I know is Docklands Light Railway. I’m a huge fan, you get there in no time.

I didn’t do a particularly intense search, I wondered if perhaps trams hadn’t really been revived in the UK after OGF post but it appears that they have.

20, 30 years ago there was lots of talk about trams running on major shopping streets in London like Uxbridge Road, straight line from White City to Uxbridge. No body wanted it, except the mayor and his party City Hall. Thankfully it never went ahead, buses are better, so much more manoeuvrable, and now of course we have electric buses.

I think searching on the internet gives you a more national view Bruce.
I speak from more local experience.
The only trams I know locally is the Sheffield Supertram.
I have used it several times for visits to Sheffield.
You can park for free in the Meadowhall car parks (one of the largest shopping malls in England) and take the tram for free, or maybe a pound with my concessionary pass , I can’t remember. It’s far cheaper than parking in Sheffield, and some vehicles (not mine) have to pay a clean air zone charge.
But I remember hearing rumours that Doncaster residents were having to subsidise the trams because they were losing money, so I asked AI if indeed the Sheffield Supertram was losing money and this was the reply.

Sheffield Supertram

Perhaps trams have been more successful in other parts of the country, but not here.
Back in the fifties there were trams operating in Doncaster, but they were discontinued after councils subsidised the local bus services. Many private companies operated in and around Doncaster…My Mam worked as a bus conductor for 45 years on one of them…
The bus services were brilliant until they were all bought out by first mainline and the subsidies were dropped. Back in the 90’s They were testing a new tram on some waste ground at Doncaster racecourse, but it just fizzled out.
My Mam…

I’ve never taken a trip on DLR!
Must do some reading up and check it out in detail. I feel a day out coming on :+1:

Take the camera to Canary Wharf

I took a trip on DLR once, way back in 1989 to go and see Pink Floyd at the London Arena. I had never visited those areas before, very different from my North London hometown.
The concert was spectacular, by the way.

Interesting d00d!
Some of that applies to analogue photography too, back to that hyperfocal distance thing
I’ve hatched a plan!
On the Thames clipper to Greenwich fairly early in the morning. It’s fun sitting in the open in the stern rather being enclosed. Quite an experience going under the bridges etc.

I’d prefer Greenwich as a destination rather than Canary Wharf. The architecture and the maritime history makes it something a bit special. And a rather nice olde worlde pub that I’ve neglected to visit for a few years now.
Back to photography, the somewhat creepy old foot tunnel under the Thames could well yield some decent monochrome pictures particularly using fast, grainy 3200 ASA film

And then The DLR back to London, best of both worlds! :+1:

No cycling allowed in that tunnel, some people …

The modern world of Canary Wharf and around there is worth seeing, or you can just enjoy it from the train.

Yes, we could do both :+1:

Power Chair and Electric Bike 2 lane sidewalks are now the Local construction big deal. They appear to be tying into the mostly deserted the greater part of the days bike trails built in the 20th century. Yep, they cover the electrical, sewer, water and Cable / Internet facilities along with the Natural Gas distribution routes. They avoid 3’ diameter trees with a hook.

Anyone with an electric vehicle is probably feeling particularly smug at the moment.

My friend (my daughter’s father in law) is going to Melbourne this week, they were taking their diesel fourbie but are now going in their electric Kona, Just a matter of working out where to have lunch while it recharges.

Diesel is $3.09 a litre here (£1.54 a litre) while unleaded petrol is $2.49 (£1.25)

Wow Bruce that’s near $11.75 a gallon for Diesel. Lowest price I saw at the pump was $3.84 a gallon for 87 octane. Up + $1.25 in 2 weeks Cause $3.99 was across / down the street. We in the USA are truely blessed with our resources, we just don’t like this crap on our life things happening.
