I’ve just finished reading ‘The girl behind the gates’ by Brenda Davies.
It’s based on a true story about a 17 year old girl who becomes pregnant. Her parents send her to an institution. Labelled a moral defective she has to endure years of unspeakable cruelty.
Parts of this were almost unbearable to read but the ending is surprisingly very uplifting.
That sounds like a good book, Carol, I shall look out for that. A few years ago, I read the entire Torey Hayden series, where she managed to help children who were “difficult to communicate with” shall we say. I do enjoy a good uplifting ending!
