Australian Security is deliberately highly visible , nothing wrong with that.
The UK has a very different highly automated scanning and surveillance system, which also works
.

I discovered that the pickup point from P3 Express Pick Up was not free, it was £6. I assumed because there was no barrier it was free but apparently they check the number plate and somehow send you a bill.

I do remember in London having to pay to go to the toilet though I haven’t come across it yet.
Yesterday I went with my brother to Macclesfield to get his new specs and he paid £1.40 to park in a council car park for 0-1 hour on a Sunday!
There is some irony in the fact that I have worn glasses all my life and now don’t need them, he has never needed glasses most of his life and now does.

Sunday is probably the principle retail selling day of the week in the UK. So I’m almost surprised that the Sunday rate for parking was not more expensive than, say, the Tuesday rate.

Visited Cheltenham today, drove down the M5/6. The traffic was like driving in Sydney all the time, it came to a near halt a couple of times but it seemed to flow well otherwise even though there was a lot of it.
Cheltenham streets have shrunk, everything seemed smaller but my brother and I visited where we grew up. He reckons it has not shrunk it is just that I have got bigger!
He learned that we had a great uncle that died at the end of WWI (of Spanish Flu) because I showed him the name on the war memorial outside the Municipal Offices and about the employer of all our great aunts (Shires and Lance’s). I wasn’t aware he didn’t know about these little snippets.
After visiting various premises that belonged to various relatives we had an all day breakfast and coffee at a cafe then visited Pittville Park and the Pump House (it is Cheltenham SPA) for a stroll about before making our way back to Macclesfield.

I had a quiet chuckle to myself over the last few days with everybody around me wilting in the heat. I am just thinking how nice it is to be warm, it would be nice if the humidity was a bit lower but that is the only improvement.
I would be freezing at home with the maximum temperature of 16°. July and August are the worst of the winter months where I live.

The heat is getting Mrs Fox down, and I think she is rearranging her bucket list not to go and live in Spain after all…

For what’s worth the climate has changed, at least in my lifetime. We had snow and ice regularly when I going to school. And we had that huge freeze in 1963. Now we rarely get snow here. So yes, people here do whinge about about the heat…
