At What Age Do You Start Feeling 'Old'? And Does that Feeling Affect Who You Are?

I never thought I’d be an ole lady . I worked with the elderly and saw with many they were bright young things having wondeful holidays and cruises etc . I would listen to their stories . I started to notice 70 was the milestone , over 70 as time went on i noticed a decline in their energies and outlook on life . I often mentioned it to work collegues .

I am mid 70s now , so i look back at the young me i once was . How have i become one of those old ladies. I never had their holidays and cruises , i just cruised into an old body and a memory that cant remember, a mind that feels all fumbled and muddled . Where have i gone . I dont like living in this old body . The only good thing is i am wiser , ive seen my faults and the mistakes i made and wrong decisions. I now wonder when my time will come and hope it will be gentle .

A good post Susan, emotional, but seek out the good stuff in your past, and never regret those mistakes, faults or bad decisions, they have brought you to this place now, and made you the person that you are…

As the saying goes ’ When one is young one wants to look good as one gets older you want to feel good’ .

‘‘The only good thing is i am wiser , ive seen my faults and the mistakes i made and wrong decisions.’’

I agree I was out spoken ( nothing to be proud of ) and lost count how many genuine fist fights I had but those were days no one recording as no cell phones , no arrests . When I first moved to Miami at a Town Hall meeting I called the police the texting addicted Caribbean Keystone Cops and the Cuban politicians the Cuban Cosa Nostra who made the 5 Mafia families of NY look ethical .

They did not know my mother was Cuban ( not that it made it ok ) so the reaction was great , lol .

I said other things I can not post but now calmer .

People, young and not so young are generally courteous here in London. I don’t really know about other parts of the country.

Well … I started this thread feeling OK but you are all so sprightly and busy doing things. are energetic and so upbeat it made me re-evaluate.
You’ve made me feel quite sedentary and old and a miserable thing. I’m 63,

Oh yes and I see it here as far a tourists , in fact my neighbors wifes mom is Venezuelan and she lived in the UK for 6 years ( a nurse) and though she now lives in Georgia the few times she visits and we chat she speaks highly of the UK and can only stand Miami for a few days .

You are still a lass and at your age celebrate life with black pudding and coffee three times a day because at your age you can do it .

A pet goes a long way as it gives a reason to stay healthy , walk , etc .

I gave up trying to get my neighbors to get a dog this way I could walk the dog , hang out with him / her but their responsibility .

I have several fish tanks and owl finches but you know a dog is different .

Edit , actually I have not given up yet trying to get my neighbors to get a dog , lol but his wife will not budge .

Well yes … I do still indulge in all the naughty treats that are not good for me. Chocolate and biccies.
The worst sight I see first thing in the morning is not actually Mr Morty …I’m seriously thinking of moving the mirror out.

Yes, a dog. I think I was about 12 when I got mine, just a pup then. He was totally attached to me. But then I left home for university so I didn’t see him much. Then didn’t see him at after got a job. Then I retired and we our now dog, Max. He died about ten years and now we have Dot/

Come on Morty, you’re contribution to the forum is brilliant, we are lucky to have someone with your sharp wit and great sense of humour. Beauty is not just how a person looks… :009:
Anyway, you’re not old…Being old is ‘relative’ …

Add ‘Dunking’ to your vocabulary too Win…Get yerself a nice packet of McVities chocolate digestives and sink one biscuit into a nice steaming hot mug of Yorkshire tea…Be careful not to leave it soaking for too long or you’ll be left with just a thumb and finger holding on to a very small portion of said biscuit, while the majority sinks below the surface…It takes lots of practice to get it just right…But once perfected…It’s better than sex…The way I’ve been doing it lately anyway…

I have 2 bathrooms but only use one and on that one I have a picture of Sean Connery when he did his first James Bond movie it takes up the entire mirror over sink and this is how I start my day and end my day .

I live in my own world and must say rather enjoyable .

Hunting dog .

Going back decades there was a chain type place to eat in Albany called Tiffanys .

They had chocolate cake and the good squishy type with hot chocolate syrup , chocolate ice cream and chocolate whip cream .

For lots it was to much but for me it was fantastic .

It’s very sociable…
