At What Age Do You Start Feeling 'Old'? And Does that Feeling Affect Who You Are?

I have not worn a dress since a panto many years ago

Same for me when I wore the kilt…

Convenient is a good word for it, sometimes feeling old just means we finally have the excuse to slow down and take life at our own pace.

Ah yes, the knees, they’re always the first to tell the truth, even when the rest of us still feel young at heart!

It was probably when the first of my nineteen grandkids started calling me Gramps

I only feel old when My three ‘Children’ complain to me about Their wrinkles/grey hair/ and arthritic joints :grimacing:…But when They’re not around I’m just a young carefree Lass,

The feeling that being old affects me most is when someone asks me how old I am!
If I didn’t have to put an actual number to the answer, I’d be just fine.
Hmmm, maybe I could say, “in my seventies”…
And then…when that same person says, “Oh, you certainly don’t look or act like it!” Well, reality hits me smack in the face!

Do you know that just about sums it up! Ageing, attitudes and how you feel can’t simply be calculated, defined and neatly tucked away in a little box. Life is far more nuanced than that, hope that makes sense…sort of :+1:

When people stopped making sense.

does sense matter any more

Nineteen grandkids — wow, that’s quite a legacy, EZ_Rider! I can imagine the very first time one of them called you “Gramps” must have been a special moment. That’s when you know you’ve officially stepped into a new chapter of life, aches and dropsies included. At least you’ve got a whole team of grandkids to keep you entertained!

That’s a brilliant way of looking at it, May! When the “children” start comparing wrinkles and grey hairs, it does make us chuckle :face_with_hand_over_mouth: but I love how you slip back into being a carefree lass when they’re not around. That’s the spirit! Age might add a few creaks and groans, but it doesn’t have to take away our sense of fun.

I know exactly what you mean, the number itself can feel heavier than the years! If we could just say “in my seventies” without putting a precise figure on it, I think we’d all feel a bit lighter. And then when someone says, “Oh, you don’t look or act like it,” it’s flattering but also a reminder that time is marching on. Still, I reckon it’s better to be seen as youthful in spirit than to get hung up on the digits.

People used to look surprised when I told them how old I was because I looked so young…Nowadays they still look surprised but I can see in their eyes that they thought I was older…

You have to understand it to know the answer.

Now I have 4 skateboards that do 20mph.

The number of days you feel eighty instead of eighteen.

It’s a compromise…If I wake up feeling about thirty two then I’m content. How old I feel at the end of the day when I go to bed is an entirely different matter! :open_mouth:
