Are you competitive?

My father was like that,Art, I kid you not if my brother won him at cards, he would get really nasty, I just don’t understand that to be honest ,at one time we thought he was going to hit him,…a very bad sport was my father…:disappointed::disappointed:

My sons ex girlfriend that she is now, was an excellent cook,

That is awful but then your dad may have had a warped idea of training your brother on how to win?
His own father might even have been the very same to him and it was an inherited trait?

It was a shame,it certainly knocked my brothers confidence, I mean honestly, he wasn’t allowed to win at cards, because it upset my dad…there is no logic in that…never mind, none of us are perfect and I loved my dad dearly.:heartpulse:

I was competitive at sports, has our PE teacher at the time said, whats the point of keeping score if its for fun.

I was taught to take defeat sportingly. If I get beaten at something i don’t take it to heart. Losing let’s you learn where you went wrong and think about how to improve.:+1:

Similar to my belief…its not about winning or losing, its how you play the game :+1:

Having been a long distance marathon runner all my life I can’t say that I’ve ever been all that competitive except with myself. I’ve always considered covering the distance and maybe knocking off a few minutes to be the challenge, and if other runners passed me, I would let them go if it meant using up energy trying to catch them and risking not surviving the course. Failure to complete the distance would have been disastrous and only happened on two occasions.

I also like to enjoy board and card games, but it’s not the end of the world if I lose or don’t win, and feel happy for the player that does. I like watching sports that display skills, like golf and snooker, and enjoy and admire anyone who plays well, I don’t particularly care who wins.

There is also the fact that if you enter a sport as an ‘also ran’ you don’t look as much as a nob when you lose…

:rofl: How many times have I heard that!

Sports teachers used to get wound up by me something rotten and often during a match I’d forget what the score was anyway, who cares?

I think they found me really annoying because I was actually quite good at sporty stuff, nippy and quick, fast runner, a good eye, good at whacking, kicking and catching a ball.

But I just wasn’t bothered about winning and they said I had no team spirit (True!)

You must believe in yourself to be competitive…imo.

I encouraged my son greatly, but, I never taught him to be the best, that’s a lot of pressure, as long as he did his best, that’s good enough.

As I say I’m only really competitive with my sponges…

My son just happens to be very competitive in his field of his profession.
