Are you a miser when buying your lunch on a day out?

Chili, if I was a tourist guide taking Italian tourists around Britain, I would take them for a pub lunch to taste real, traditional British food. :+1:

I would give cockroaches and grasshoppers a miss too, Bruce. :face_with_spiral_eyes:

Try buying cheesy chips Spitty…used to get them for my son on days out. A bit of stringy cheddar and wallop! :open_mouth: :pound:

Just looked Large Cheesy chips are Ā£5.80 (not Regular) so, I’ll order them next time and wash them off in the sink, now that is Miserism

Nah!
Scrape off the cheese, take it back and ask for a partial refund…or a complimentary luncheon voucher.

Yer can’t get away from the numbers though, Regular Chips say 35 per bag, Cheesy Chips say 18 per bag, you can’t win if you like your Chips.
Being a Miser ain’t worth the effort, life’s too short

One of the grandchildren runs a cafĆ©. He has invited a few of us there today for a free full-English breakfast. OK, I might not be feeling in the best of health but I’m well enough to take him up on it. Our son will get me there.

When out for a meal, I don’t care what it costs. It’s quite a rare occasion and I splash the cash regardless.

When I was young and single I’d be out every night.

Now we never go anywhere in the evenings but we do like to go out for lunch a couple of times a week.

Our favourite outing for many years now is a walk in Hyde Park followed by The Whole Food Store, Kensington High St. They do a hot buffet, I normally have a dollop of Lasagne and a dollop of MacCheese. Small portion for £8-£10. Mrs d00d always brings fruit, something like a couple of tangerines. Lovely old deco building, free samples on offer of all sorts, sweet & savoury, clean loos and lots of them.

Chinatown Buffet is a good cheap option.

I admire that approach and had thought I followed the same thinking about selecting the dishes I wanted. But last time I was in London I was shocked at the prices. In a fairly mid-standard restaurant the main dishes were around £30. For one plate. Add a starter, a couple of glasses of wine and a coffee & service charge - little change from £100 for one person. That day I had soup and a sandwich from pret a manger.

I haven’t been to Maccas in a while,
Saver Menu: Double Cheeseburger is about enough for me. £2.29 is (I think) the up to date price.

I don’t have any need to go to London, so have never eaten out there. I might change my mind on splashing the cash if I did.

I have the healthy option, Fillet o Fish

There must be dozens of places in London where you can still buy this for a tenner:

London is the exception in terms of pricing, true. But any of the cities have lots of good(ish) restaurants where the main dishes are Ā£20-Ā£30, starters are Ā£12-15, side dishes are Ā£5-8, glasses of wine Ā£7-15. So that will not be much under Ā£100 per person. Eating out in the UK is mad expensive compared to what I’m used to.

Its a fillet of fish in batter with cheese on a burger bun, psychologically less fattening than a Big Mac or the like.
