Apparently, it's the next big thing. What is the metaverse?

Ooh I fancy being Bathsheba for real. Oh wait! It’s not real, is it, not really real?

Described as ‘beautiful but capricious’, with a queue of suitors. Sounds good to me!

I’m SO glad I do not use so called ‘social’ media :+1:

I think it sounds rather good :+1: Great for when we’re too decrepit to go out!

Something like some in this universe believe in already
– no consequences for anything whatsoever?
 :grinning:

I do not class a moderated forum as social media.

There’s always consequences where humans are involved, if only the consequence of being thrown out of the metaverse. Just different consequences for different actions than in meat space.

Wikipedia disagrees with that view, as do many others.

Forums are an element of social media technologies which take on many different forms including blogs, business networks, enterprise social networks, forums, microblogs, photo sharing, products/services review, social bookmarking, social gaming, social networks, video sharing and virtual worlds

Still confused. Most sites people consider social media like Facebook, twitter, Reddit, Instagram, etc. are all moderated. Unmoderated forums are very rare.

Seeing the post above, maybe the emphasis was on forum and not the moderated part.

Yep, but on a Forum, you don’t have to wear a headset, not unless you want to of course. :grinning:

Very true - nor on the majority of social media platforms

You know that and so do I but some these days behave and expect there to be no consequences for anything, “I want, I have, I take” and no bothering about any consequences. That is what I was actually meaning. To me that word ‘metaverse’ is just that, another word but one that means nothing to me at all. Perhaps those my age thought that about the ‘internet’, all new to them at that time?
 :grinning:

Well, you could have fooled me! One on my granddaughters, now 20, has endured so much obviously completely unmoderated abuse, she has deleted her FB & Tw accounts. She now relies on zoom type connections to her already established friends and several of those have also deleted their FB & Tw accounts for the same reasons.

Wiki can be ‘adjusted’ by anyone logged-in, so I take most Wiki entries with a pinch of well iodised salt.

Moderated doesn’t mean that everyone will be happy with the level of moderation. But they are definitely moderated. If they weren’t, Twitter and Facebook couldn’t kick Donald Trump off. And Reddit couldn’t close subs that went against policy.

FB did absolutely sod-all for my granddaughter despite repeated complaints (is it called flagging?), so she happily left and closed her membership.

People leave forums every day with the same complaint so not so different.

Donkeyman! :thinking::thinking:

I think forums are definitely a form of social media. And I suppose those that have virtual pubs, chat rooms and group events are a primitive metaverse

And they have the same problems as Facebook and Twitter sometimes, with bullying, abuse and poor moderation
