Anyone thought about emigrating elsewhere?

I liked it…a country of total contradiction.

I’d love my children to move to Adelade in Australia , I’d go with them , we would have no one to miss here in the UK. I keep asking my son in law to check out the work there . I’m sure life would be better for them , and for me too . They just smile at me though , so looks like I’m stuck in the UK now .

One question we’d have to ask…would they want us to go with them?

Or should I say…would their wife/hubby want their in-law(s) to accompany them?

Tpin , that made me smile , and of course your right . I’ve told the kids I’d sell my house and put a large amount towards a house with them , but I’d want my own little flat and front door that’s for sure . Son in law is a nice guy and we get on well .

Any way it won’t happen cause they don’t want to go

You devil…it’s usually builders after planning permission that use tactics like this.

When my children were young I had some regrets that they didn’t have many relatives here other than some cousins on my wife’s side. They tell me they never felt they missed out and it has to be said thatthey made a lot of friends at school (even at kindi) and among neighbours.

Now they have very extended families of their own but I was aware of it when they were young.

It’s all very well Brits staying out in the sunny countries during winter months, to ‘save on heating their homes’, but to avoid the risk of frost and flood damage, they still need heating anyway!!

When the flat above me became vacant, it was empty into December, and that worried me, because it was getting mighty chilly, and I wondered if the heating was on or not. I’ve suffered enough with leaks from the kitchen AND bathroom.

If I went away for weeks on end in the winter, I’d still keep my heating on.

Drain down like a caravan/boat left over winter.

Most heating systems have a frost setting.

Mine don’t! And I’m damned if I was to drain my pipes!!

And the valve to the hot water pipe into the kitchen cannot be turned off. It’s knackered.

In response to the OP…

All the time Azz…all the time

What type of heating system do you have? - gch?
You should get that valve replaced. You’ll need it when least convenient I expect.

A red gate valve? They are known for it.

Gate valves have always been rubbish. Change it for a ball valve.

We’re only talking of the hot water pipe into the kitchen, fed from the water tank. Heating is by storage rads. No gas.

Thoses 50k will have been born in the uk with at least one Irish parent and have a uk passport

I advised my daughter to get an Irish passport as well as a UK one 20 odd years ago as her mother was Irish.

…Not Spain…With a GFC…which could take place at any time, and probably without any warning, Spain will be among the first of the European nations, closely following Italy, to go down. In fact, avoid Europe altogether. In stead…think…CANADA…

Well it was our intention to buy a camper van after we sell the house and spend at least 6 months of the year travelling and just trekking about all over the place.

It wont happen now but it was a nice dream.

I intended to retire to Tuscany to keep Tony and Cherie company, not going to happen now.

We were due to emigrate to New Zealand many years ago, but, unfortunately, it all fell through. Other than that, Italy would be my choice. The history, culture, people, food, wine etc are excellent.

My husbands family were all due to emigrate to New Zealand when he was small but his mother backed out at the last minute. They had their tickets and everything. His Dad was furious as his best mate and family were going at the same time.

His Dad regretted it until the day he died (and he was only 62) and every time he and his wife had a row this would be dragged up and some furious rows resulted.

His mate and family settled down there and did really well and used to send photos of their new life but my FIL would never go and visit because he was sad at what he had missed out on.
