When I was a teen, my brother played D&D and I wish I had been included. Never too old to begin, right?
I also love Star Trek (esp TNG) I’ve been looking into the Star Trek Adventures tabletop RPG. Right now I’m reading Dragons of Autumn Twilight. I picked it up since it’s part of the D&D world, and it’s been fun getting into that.
I used to read a lot of fantasy in my teens and twenties, and it’s been fun revisiting these worlds again.
I have Captain’s Log (a star trek solo RPG that’s mostly journaling a story), which I’ve been trying, but one day I’d really like to find friends or even create a group to play with (TTRPG)
I’m pretty introverted though, so I’m not sure how well that will pan out.
I’d love any encouragement, ideas, or to hear from anyone who plays or used to play.
I have not played it myself but was talking to someone a while back who as quite into it - I didn’t even know what it was until then (You’ll have to add some notes explaining what it is, I’m guessing many people here might not know…)
I remember playing d&d many years ago. I used to enjoy it and had many laughs playing it, especially when I was DM. But that was a long time ago and have often thought about getting back into it at sometime, but the rules have changed so many times I’m not sure i could, or find a game for someone of my age group. I still have the manuals and all the weird dice that came with it.
What about playing by the old rules with people who never played or people that used to play with those older rules. (In solo RPG, you can make up your own rules.) It seems like it would be very valid to play by an old/original edition of the D&D book. Of course, I know nothing about it, just thinking how fun it’d be to play with people more my age. I think it’s a wonderful thing for the grey matter and the spirit. If you were DM, you could maybe start your own campaign? Did you ever read any of the Dragonlance Chronicles?
Well, I didn’t imagine anyone would respond that didn’t know what the abbreviations mean. So, no worries. I’m trying to find specific folks that would definitely know. It is a language for… if you are interested, table top role playing games. You can look up Dungeons and Dragons and role playing games, you might like them.
Not A very helpful answer as what the abbreviations mean. Being 81years old I never played whatever the headings were about. No never played an computer games in my life. Had better things to do
TBH I could easily play again with the old rules, as I used to play with 1st edition, with a bit of 2nd edition thrown in, plus a pile of house rules and variants, and before I get too involved I would have to dig out my books and go through them. However, the real issue would be finding an active and suitable table local to me, which there isn’t.
And yes, I was a very big fan of the Dragonlance Chronicles/Test Twins/Prologues. I was NOT a fan of the Fifth Age and gave up very quickly on it shortly after it came out.
I’m reading the first in Dragonlance (for the first time and enjoying it).
Maybe you could play online with old friends or family? Like a video chat space. Well thanks for responding. I hope you dig out those books and look through them if it brings you some joy. I am finding reading Dragons of Autumn Twilight to be like stepping back in time, to a simpler time, when my head was in the books for D & D type worlds and I’m loving it. Also you can play solo RPG (I’ve been watching some YouTube vids about doing that).
To be honest I can’t remember how to play it now but it involved writing projected moves down, then comparing with other players to determine the outcome. When I ran a BBS in the 1990s there was an on line version that needed a moderator.
Campaign is probably 50 years old, my first wife and I used to play it, funny thing was that we were playing it incorrectly for ages but then we tried playing according to the rules and discovered that it wasn’t as good a game as our “wrong” version.
Speculate is even older, I had that as a teenager but it can be a very long game - takes days sometimes.
I have a feeling the old version of Monopoly (front) has some pieces missing so it might go in the bin, I obviously felt the need to replace it at some time.
Risk is a great game, I have a newer version of that because my son left the original somewhere when he was on holiday. Now my youngest grandkid is old enough I might try to revive that at Christmas.
I’m afraid I’m largely ignorant when it comes to dungeons and dragons. The nearest thing I can think of was way back when I had a mega Drive, tried this…
