Anyone here play piano?

So I’ve just tried to do the scales this morning with both hands - I get to a certain point on the way back to C note and one of my fingers ends up in the wrong place! Arrgh! I hope the neighbours aren’t laughing (or crying)!

I am thinking about this in terms of brain neuro development too. It’s interesting to feel the new connections painfully trying to form. Parts of my brain that have not been used before are protesting.

They say it’s good for the brain to take up a musical instrument when you are over 50. I can see why - it’s very challenging.

Good ears, good fingers, good other things too no doubt when you get to over 70!

I admire your efforts. It’s very difficult to keep at it though if you have no musical ability whatsoever like me.My piano teacher was nice and very patient but we both knew it was only a matter of time before I gave up.

So how is the piano progressing Annie…
This is me playing Beethoven’s 6th symphony in G minor…

@AnnieS Yes, the piano and many other instruments, with my latest I’ve finally mastered, the Bandura. The Bandura was a natural progression from my 6 chord zither which I adore.

I only play for fun, now.

Could only see one of the videos Win, but you are brilliant…

And I love Bach…

Yep. Not a single note is wasted.

Am going to a piano recital in a few weeks. One of the pieces will be Bach Ricecar a 3 (bwv 1079). Wasn’t familiar with it, so have been listening to several different performances as well as a lecture on YouTube. So interesting to learn about it, and it helps get a deeper appreciation for it.

A few year ago, I started to have some more piano lessons again. Sadly, I’d broken my wrist a few years before that which not only makes it stiff, but also (weirdly) means that even playing scales has each hand slightly out of sync. So, I gave up.

Thanks. Try again; I’ll try posting separately. v

I found this 3-Part Invention difficult to learn because it’s a 3-part invention.

My mother was a pianist before life and other commitments took over.

So, @win231, although you obviously don’t need it, I thought you’d like to know that I think you’ve got a lovely touch.

Why, thank you.

Some beautiful pieces you’ve posted @win231, bravissimo!

I started learning to play the piano a few years ago but I’ve never actually had lessons, so I just “play around” with the chords in the end, singing to my favourite songs, I can’t read music very well.
Bach was our first classical music encounter, we started with Air on the g string (me and my late husband), we learned only the first part and then went on to learn the Prelude C major BWV846, which I still manage to play, amateurily of course. :slightly_smiling_face:
