Over here, they aren’t mushrooming either and the reason is probably qualification. The damage to the skin is considerable and it takes a dermatologist to do the job. They are snowed under with tattoo removal and the number keeps growing. After all those lower back tattoos that hardly any woman wants to be seen dead with today have disappeared, people are having second thoughts about getting rid of other ones, too, because their life or expectations have changed. One more reason to think twice about going under the needle.

I don’t have any tattoos but all my kids do.

My grandfather had a tattoo on each forearm done during WW1 in France. apparently they were his regimental coat of arms on one arm, I forget the other but something related.

When I knew him in the 1950s/60s they were just blue blobs unrecognisable as anything. I tell my kids this but they mutter, “…modern inks… modern techniques…”. Such is life.

No one in my family has any.
None of my kids, siblings, nephews or nieces.

Except for the daughter of my cousin’s daughter that had a tiny turtle tatooed in a place you can only notice when she is wearing bikini at the beach.

They might seem a good idea for the young, but it’s not the same effect on elderly skin. Also some people just don’t know when to stop. I do think the tattoos people have on cancer operation sites are nice though, you know like the flower on the site of a mastectomy etc. That’s probably the only type of tattoo I approve of.

Thieves etc should have it tattooed on their forehead

I don’t have any.

My husband has one on each upper arm. First one when he was about 20 and 2nd one about 30 years later - and got first one re inked.

He has not regretted them or found they interfere in life in any way. He wouldn’t have had the 2nd one done if he feltt that way.
I guess if he commits some dastardly crime and goes on the run, it might make it harder to stay incognito - but I doubt that scenario is very likely :woman_shrugging:

I dont like them on people’s faces - or whole body covered - but other than that they are so mainstream now that it is really a non issue.

Those that have done bird have a tat on their neck. LINK

I find tattoos hideous, especially when they are covering the face and neck. The worst ones, seem to be gang members in parts of the USA, and mainly in South American countries. The only thing that is even uglier, are those ghastly nose piercings, which defy description! :face_with_open_eyes_and_hand_over_mouth:

So many people here in this town have nose piercings, as do a lot of actors on the telly. I’m wondering if there is some reason for it that I’ve never come across!!! I find I don’t want to look at them.

Even a couple of female relatives have them. Urgh.

Nothing new about nose rings, bulls have had them for years.

Now that one is rather sweet. Would I want it, no, but I like it. It’s very tastefully done & looks like a Koala.

I don’t like them and haven’t got one. Last year I bumped into a woman I worked with and we went for a drink. A girl walked past covered in tattoos and she said she felt sorry for anyone with tattoos… I asked how her butterfly was and she said ‘It’s more like an airship’. She had a small butterfly on her bum and she’s put on a lot of weight. Before you ask, I saw it when a few of us went swimming in the lunch hour

Your response makes me laugh, but also the point of extra weight and skin sagging!

@Chilliboot , if you are having a tattooed bum, you won’t be able to see it, silly.

At least not without a strategically placed mirror…ew!

A lady was going to have a tatoo of a pug dog on her stomach, until I pointed out in later years it would look more like a Shai Pie
