Paint it Black - The Rolling Stones
Released 60 years ago this month.
My favourite Stones song.
It’s a song about loss and the gloom and despair one feels during that process.
It is a song about how those who have suffered a sudden loss, and can’t bear that life must go on without their lover – the mourning has veiled an appreciation for the vibrant colors around us, (“I want them to turn black”), and can’t even consider anyone else in his present state; “I have to turn my head,” he sings, “until my darkness goes.”
As the song rides out, seemingly sinking deeper and deeper into suffering. “It’s not easy facing up,” is the lament, “when your whole world is black.”

I always reckon I’m not much of a Stones fan but then they’ve done one or two that are so haunting and moody and broody they are classics.
I love Paint It Black … and this one.

I just heard parts of the Stones newest song, Rough and Twisted from their new album. I think it’s called Foreign Tongues. The album is due to be released in July.
It made our evening news!

I only saw them with Brian Jones who I went to primary school with though I don’t remember him at all (he was older) and him being dead definitely doesn’t remember me.
Actually I was also at school with Jimi Hendrix bass guitarist but he was younger than me and again I don’t remember him at all.
Missed brushes with fame…
