No you wouldn’t - the only option would be to leave the train and then resume your journey on a later train.
My first train journey in Australia was on such a train, however it was not a short commuter journey it was from Sydney to Brisbane a trip of 1000km. The train did stop for regular toilet breaks because the journey took a all night.
It was winter so the funniest thing was that at a stop after it got dark the carriage door was thrown open by three men who warned, “Lift your feet” and hoisted in an enormous metal container which stretched nearly the width of the carriage. It was filled with hot water and was the heating for the rest of the trip until we arrived in Brisbane early the next morning.
I love that story! Your feet must have been lovely and toasty
Are you sure that the hot liquid, in there, was water, Bruce?
No but I was told that it was and it sloshed like water, however it was over 50 years ago
