Ambulance 24 hours in A&E

Having sat and watched Ambulance and having previously watched 24 hours in A&E does anyone think that the “powers that be” i.e. government ministers etc ever watch this and feel that it is at breaking point the whole system. Heart breaking stories of people trying their best to work within a system that is at breaking point.

I doubt that MPs watch this sort of stuff. If they did, they’d try and do something about it above and beyond what they think they can, and they’d become despondent about how futile their best efforts actually are.

Far more sensible to filter out harsh realities.

If they watch it it’s only so they can blame each other rather than take responsibility for mistakes they have made.

I didn’t realise ow dire things were in the NHS until this week. My Sister in Law posted on Facebook that my brother had just had a triple by pass and a new aorta valve. I was quite surprised to read this and phoned him to find out about it.

He told me he had been on a waiting list for 15 months waiting for this operation and had only a few days notice of his admission but was now home recovering.

I thought nothing more about this until a couple of days later when I was at my seniors meeting and in the course of the conversation I told them about this. The look of shocked surprise on their faces startled me once again, apparently such an operation is not elective surgery and is dealt with as a priority. One of my friends related how she had got into hospital for some tests completely unrelated to the heart (kidneys I think) when they discovered she needed a triple bypass and she was admitted straight away and operated on the next morning.

Others told very similar stories. Having heard all this a 15 month wait for such a serious operation seems completely unreasonable and a failure of the system.

Not that everything is perfect here either there is a waiting list for elective surgery like hip replacements and cataracts but not for things like these heart operations.

it’s always better to have this as elective surgery. Nobody used to have to wait 15 months before the tories ravaged the NHS with the health and social care bill in 2013. We have gone back to the bad old days post Thatcher’s hatchet job when workers were totally demoralised and it was impossible to even find a bedpan on a ward due to cuts.

The Tory ministers aren’t bothered about the great unwashed, as they all have private healthcare

I’ve set aside money just In case I need surgery.
I’m sure my parents didn’t have do this.

My Great Uncle has got to wait 18 months to see a hearing specialist.
He`s 85 for heavens sake,i am sure they are hoping he pops his clogs first.
BUT, if he goes private,he will see the same specialist consultant within a week.
Disgraceful.

They don’t care a jot , even if they watched , they have their private hospitals and doctors who will see them on the same day and admit them if necessary for specialist treatment. We are minions , we are there to keep them in their high and mighty positions , they may tut tut at our disadvantages but we are in our place and they are in theirs

I think that Covid had a lot to do with this. I know that it considerably changed our life style.

It is a sad fact that consultants prefer private patients because it pays better that the NHS do.
If there was no NHS & we were all private I suspect that we would still have to wait longer, or maybe more doctors would want to work here & make their fortune.
I often watch these programmes & learn from things they say, but I suspect many government ministers have private health insurance, so don’t understand!

Spot on, their arrogance plain to see,

A lot of NHS hip & knee replacement patients end up having the procedure in private hospitals with the NHS picking up the tab.
Isn’t it ridiculous.
