… who can burn toast in a toaster??
Put wholemeal bread in toaster - nipped outside for less than 1 min to put something in the recycling bin - came back to a kitchen full of blue smoke and four bits of charcoal!
Ho Hum - start again!

Is your toaster set on high, Tabby? Mine was and set off the smoke alarm every single time - even when i hovered over it!
I just use the grill now - I can’t be bothered with constantly checking to see if its done on the low setting!

Hi ST As a bread maker I notice flours absorb different amounts of water and moisture levels in bread can affect the browning time.
So with a set timer and not watching the toast it can come out too pale, dark or burn
Aha! I’ve been blaming the toaster but it’s all the breads fault.
Thanks for that.
Oh, definitely not the only one!
Scrape it out in the garden.
Maybe needs turning down just a tad?
Did you know that the heat from a toaster/grill turns some of the bread’s carbohydrates into sugars, which is why toast tends to taste a bit sweet?
Yes, Dex, I did know that - but thank you anyway!
Only burn toast when another person has changed the setting
from where I had it lol
I have a theory about ambient temperature. It’s easier to burn toast on a hot summer’s day even if you are on your usual setting.
