All Creatures Great and Small on Channel 5

I haven’t dared look at this thread, I tried to watch the programme on 5 catch up but my Broadband wasn’t up to it .

Broadband mended so was able to watch tonight and enjoyed it

Glad you managed to watch it Meg. Well worth it.

Nah! JBR. I just shaved off my beard and put a syrup on my head!

A syrup?

I watched episode 2 yesterday evening on My5.
It’s very good so far.

Syrup of Figs… wig. It’s cockney lingo!!

Ah, I see.

Well, I think it’s a very nice wig, Angel, and it suits you.

After reading this thread I decided to give the series a chance …

Surprisingly, the new series seems just like the old series, neither better nor worse - probably because the producers stuck to the main attractions - the scenery, the cars and the characterisations …

Obviously, no-one can “replace” Robert Hardy but Samuel West is an acceptable Siegfried while Nicholas Ralph is very good indeed as James. Anna Madeley as Mrs Hall seems a bit young for the job and, as pointed out above, too “kind” but that’s a minor flaw. Rachel Shenton as Helen, has, so far been admirable. Callum Woodhouse as Tristan, however, is the one actor that “jars” with me - he’s too big and too “wooden”. As for the supporting actors, in the roles of “clients”, they’re what everyone expects - Yorkshire stereotype farming stock but there’s nowt wring wi’ that …

It was, naturally, sad to see the late Diana Rigg as Mrs. Pumphrey but a pleasure to think that she would have enjoyed the role …

I watched Episode 3 last night but will reveal no details …

It will suffice to say that it was time well spent …

Yes, and followed one of the major storylines of the original.

I am still enjoying my bargain box of the originals!

The originals were brilliant too. I was a bit skeptical about watching the new series, but it is interesting & a different take on the story.

I watched Episode 4 last night but will reveal no details …

IMO, far too much of the episode was devoted to Tristan, a very unsympathetic character … :069:

I am enjoying the series  I think Tim West makes an excellent Siegfried and is a good actor ( not surprising considering his parentage ) .

I wasn’t going to watch it but am glad I did and it ties in well with ‘The Yorkshire Vet’ showing on the same night.

Yet, l think he’s great in it and makes me laugh out loud. Anyone, who can do that must be good!!

Does your dislike of the actor mar your appreciation of the character he is playing?

Definitely … his “acting” is clumsy and amateurish - he made last night’s episode look like a pantomime … :081:

I agree. Tristan needs a good kick up the arse. The real Tristan, not the actor.

Most of the characters are very believable, though - I thought Tricki Woo, in particular, underplayed excellently - a roll of the eye here, a roll of the eye there …

Meg, it’s Tim’s son Samuel that’s playing Siegfried.

Well, two episodes in I’m finding it uninteresting so far. I can’t stand either of the Farnon brothers and Herriot is just a spineless wuss. I’ll give it another episode, maybe two and if the series doesn’t buck up I’ll not bother with it any more.

I find myself wishing they’d show more of the scenery and less of the actors!
