On our holiday most of the people on the cruise were Americans. The question we constantly got asked is now we have this hot weather they are all reading about was ,why don’t we have air conditiond homes
or ceiling fans at least. That got me thinking “in the middle of winter here in the UK do we actually need air conditioning in our homes?”
I don’t think many can conceive how much our weather changes, just seems strange to me
I do think with hotter summers like we are having air con would benefit us in our homes and even ceiling fans would be a blessing . Some new homes do have air con . I don’t know if I could afford to run it now though . I rarely put my small fan on , only when my lounge reaches 26 upwards
I don’t think our weather changes hugely compared countries. Germany, Poland for example. have continental weather. nd I had a trip to Canada a few years. It was on and Icebreaker in the drydock. It was -20C. Later in the year it was 25C.
Wonder where the Americans think this newfound electricity to run the aircons will come from .
Air conditioning is horribly expensive and takes vast amounts of electricity.
Not all Americans have ACs just those who can afford it the rest swelter as do other people who live in hot countries.
Staying at my kid’s house in Canberra (bloody cold place in Wnter) they have reverse cycle air conditioning so it keeps the place warm in winter and cool in summer, it is ideal. I had it on all the time keeping warm. There are different systems for different rooms so you only use what you need, it is expensive but not outrageously so
They also have a new water heater, previously it was a gas instantaneous one but has now been replaced by a heat pump type which is basically an air conditioning unit taking the heat out of the air and heating water with it.
Their roof is now covered in solar panels and there is also a battery installed so their power bill will be negligible in the future.
My wife and all her family have it but then they are from the south
South of where ?
Georgia, USA.
