AI - Will the machines become so powerful and smart that they can’t be turned off and they outwit man?

Hi Gumbud

You would be surprised how many people, even Sci-Fi fans have no real idea what is going on in Blade Runner. It is visually stunning and that is enough for some people. But there are lots of deliberate clues in there which tell the real story. As Rachel suggests, there are more Nexus robots involved that are initially perceived.

The Crab thing.

I was trying to highlight an example case that was used by some to explain artificial selection, i.e. human involvement that leads to selection of a species. The specific case if you are interested is that of “Samurai crabs”. I will let you Google it yourself. In the event, this particular example turns out to be widely criticised for various reasons not least the fact that these crabs are very small and probably wouldn’t have been of interest to fisherman. But the principle still holds. If humans use one species excessively and leave another alone then that creates artificial selection. For example we could find that in the fish world, COD eventually dies out and other fish which we tend not to eat, prosper (tho trawlers can rarely select which fish end up in their nets of course!)

Lol … nicely put

Lol Realist.

Welcome to the forum. You are as mental as the rest of us.

Try not to take yourself too seriously because we won’t that is for sure; then again none of us take ourselves seriously either.

I suggest you take up this argument with people who are in the know because I really can’t be bovvered. If I was to take you up on this topic I wouldn’t get any work done.

Keep the doors of your mind open is all I can advise and consider that you can be wrong. At the moment you are high upon that makeshift pedestal you have erected and it shows. Pride before fall every time. You are losing all credibility the more you post. I find it funny.

:-D:-D:-D

Keep it up is all I can say teaching us all about ‘stuff’. It’s wonderful :twisted::twisted: .

How thoroughly condescending and rude.

Probably. Trying anything to get you to lighten up a bit. Think of it as trying to help.

No I’m sorry MKJ. You persist in casting insults and disparagements and then try to hide behind joviality and other excuses.

It doesn’t wash.

Please desist.

ok

Having had a battle to tune a new TV this morning I strongly it had it’s own brain and was working against us so the idea a computer may become self aware is really easy to believe. Nothing will convince me otherwise

As for the rest of the continuing insults and disparagements, water off a ducks back. I have tolerated far more condescending people on numerous other forums. They go with the territory unfortunately.

Sir you have made an assertion about ugly crabs and non- ugly crabs to form part of a thesis of yours but despite my continual requests you have refused to explain how YOU can tell the difference between them. This is a form of evasive behavior used by those losing their argument.

If you are unable to address this simple request then your authenticity and honesty are floored. As is your reputation as a claimed serious seeker of the truth.

This thread is about to be abandoned due to your inability to address simple facts!

Merry Xmas Mr Realist!!:lol::lol:

ps: spoke to a carcinologist friend of mine the other day who had a good laugh about the term ‘ugly’ crabs - he suggested that you are suffering from an attack of "anthropomorphism " [ google it] - and that this form of description would be unacceptable in any scientific paper. You’ll need to smarten up your act around here Sir. We do have a few ‘real’ as opposed to ‘realist’ scientists on board!!:-D:-D

I don’t think it is all that hard to differentiate between a nice looking crab and an ugly one …

Nice looking

Ugly

I can tell the difference straight away.

I guess you missed my previous post to you, perhaps worth looking back.

As explained, I was trying to highlight the possibility of humans having impact on species and creating “artificial selection”. When I posted about “ugly” crabs it was because I could not remember at that time the specific crabs that I had previously read about. I used the term “ugly” as an example. The actual scenario, as I mentioned in previous post, was about “Samurai crabs” which some evolutionists used to back up their theories. The crabs in this case were not “ugly” as such, they simply resembled the face of a samurai and as such the assertion by evolutionists was that fisherman would thrown them back in the water through folklore/superstition, hence giving those crabs the advantage over others. However, as I also stated in my previous post, that assertion by evolutionists has been largely criticised and debunked for various reasons which you will see if you care to Google “Samurai Crabs Evolution”.

Hope that helps clear this up for you.

I feel that both crabs have their own merit

Hmmmm this needs further consideration

Rachel - you can correct the quote problem easily (if you are still able to edit the post)

The structure just needs to be :

[QuoteXX=“Mark”]
text here
[/quotexx]

but without the XXs

But I’m using an iPad and it’s not that easy … especially with an Edie on my lap

OK … PHEW … dunnit
Just for you :-p

My mistake. I thought you were using a computer !

 I am now … tuts had to move and upset the cat

I was kind of being sarcastic but nevermind

I’m not a fan of iPads

lol … can’t take the iMac upstairs to bed or the pub

Nope. But you can take a small netbook the size of a book with you almost anywhere. You get 11+ hrs battery life plus this funky revolutionary thing called a keyboard which makes typing really easy. Then it’s loaded with these futuristic awe inspiring devices like USB sockets which you can use USB pens with and other great stuff. It even lets you look at the folders inside your computer to see your documents and photos and so on and lets you move them around and organise them however you like.

The iPad on the other hand . . . . is pretty much a fail in all these respects.

Ah … sounds good
I rushed out and bought the iPad when my iMac’s hard drive broke … It was in desperation and apart from the odd spelling it persists in, I really enjoy it.
