A Replica Southern Cross Flies again

Restoration of the replica Southern Cross aircraft has been completed by the Historical Aircraft Restoration Society (HARS), 21 years after it was damaged during a flight.

It also comes 95 years after Australian aviation pioneer Sir Charles Kingsford Smith made the first trans-Pacific flight in the original Southern Cross aircraft.

The original plane belonged to to Charles Kingsford Smith (after whom Sydney Airport is named) and it set many records including the first flight to New Zealand.

The replica crashed many years ago and it has taken nearly a dozen years to restore it at the HARS Aviation Museum Shellharbour Airport just south of Wollongong.

Love the sound of these old planes, and nice to see them flying again, thanks Bruce

I forgot to mention I saw it as it flew over my house as I only live a few Ks north of Shellharbour Airport. I wasn’t quick enough to get my camera :frowning:
