A pretty red flower I don't know the name of

Lovely colour. I expect my dear wife would know what it is.

It’s a lovely shape & colour, but I have no idea what it is.

Could it be a red Aquilegia?

It is a Lobelia, Lobelia speciosa. The only reason i know that is I have an app on my phone that you can take a photograph of a plant and it tells you what it is. The app is called Picture This.

Darn, I was beaten to it!
On that one time where I know what a flower is, I’m beaten to it.
Sobs
Yes, it is a Lobelia Speciosa.
Mrs Zaphod bought some a few years back and they’ve survived these past few years nicely, growing some 70cm or more in height this year so happy are they.
Prior to these I had always thought of Lobelia as being a sort of ground-covering bedding plant.

Thanks @fitou143 I haven’t seen one of those before… :grinning:

Zaphod I will have to give that to you for knowing as i am feeling a bit guilty for cheating and using an app on a phone. :grinning:

Oh it was typical because I know next to nothing about flowers, but that one …

Marvellous plant to feed the slugs with, we found to our cost this year.

They’d have to be very athletic slugs to reach even the first leaves on ours.

We put them in the ground.

Yes, slugs like the ground or at least something firm under their foot.
They don’t seem to like coffee grounds or heights judging by our tall Lobelia.

I don’t think slugs like that sort of lobelia it’s the bedding ones that trail or bushy.

Yes. Coffee grounds, they say, is the best deterrent against slugs. Cheap too.
