Ivor Caplin stood down from being an MP 20 years ago.
As far as I know, he is just a private citizen now and doesnât have any role in Parliament or in Government.

Thats about when the Rotherham story broke.
I thought Ivor Caplin was from way down South - Brighton area and was MP for Hove - does he have any connection with Rotherham?
Wasnât it his stance on the war in Iraq which made him unpopular with anti-war protesters and his constituents?
I thought he stood down because he realised he wasnât likely to win the election.
Lots of people do write to their politicians Bruce, but it receives the same response as the petition.

But this is a forum Boot not an official site and itâs nice to hear peoples personal opinions and experiences, not just a ream of official figures. We all can look on wiki or u gov sites and find the info if we wanted to.
And a lot of info included in my posts are from local personal experience (Lincs) how could I possible produce facts from events that happened over the 74 years of my life. It doesnât make them less worthy of posting on a forum for people of a certain age. You probably read the same news as I do, but interpret it different.

Sadly, grooming and sexual exploitation of children has been happening all over the country for many years.
Is there any reason to think the grooming gangs in Brighton and Hove are linked to those in Rotherham?
i thought that link you posted was about grooming girls for sex in Brighton and Hove.
The Rotherham grooming gang seemed to focus on grooming girls too.
I havenât seen any indication that the Rotherham gang involved sexual exploitation of boys.
I thought the allegations against Ivor Caplin allegedly involved sexual exploitation of a 15 year old boy.
All of these sexual exploiters of children are disgusting creatures who deserve to be kept away from children and brought to justice - but I cannot see how someone who used to be an MP 20 years ago who has recently been accused of a crime of child sex abuse should impact on the current government, which he has never served in.
This thread is about a petition for general election because of lack of support for the CURRENT GOVERNMENT - I just donât get why alleged recent crimes of someone who has not been an MP for 20 years ago is relevant.

Avoiding democracy, reorganise after the local May elections, further undermines the democratic right and people can see this is wrong. This ploy will backfire, hiding from the voter, unfair and unwise. Eleven million people are furious. None of Labour legislation is democratic and if the situation were not so dire they would be gong ahead. Odds on that Chancellor will be the scapegoat for the PM.
