Only trouble with, Pixie, is that not every bitch wants to be a Mum! Yet many a girl is mated against her will regardless.
Then she might have a difficult birth, or even a caesarean, has no milk, or won’t feed the pups, etc, and then what?
It’s the same as humans, and not all women want kids, but at least they are not usually raped and forced into it.

Danny, were you thinking of a pup, or an older, rescue dog?
I see you are in America, so if it was a pup you wanted, may I suggest you look on the
American K.C. website and see where reputable breeders are first?
I know very little about the AKC, but our English one says where litters are, how many dogs/bitches born, and whether the breeder is ’ Approved’ or not. (Though this isn’t always infallible)!
You can also research every breed on there, their health problems, and the appropriate breed club to get even more information. Why not buy a book on your chosen breed too.
Personally I would never purchase any breed without learning all I could about it first - too late afterwards!
As regards breeding, again I don’t know the regulations where you are, but here, to do it properly, there is a lot more legislation and paperwork then there used to be. e.g. Pedigrees, Insurance, KC registrations, Diet sheets, Contracts to sign, etc, let alone finding the right ‘mate’ in the first place.

Oh other than the size configuration (meaning a small dog). When I make up my mind and go to the shelter, I’m sure one will pick me and breed really doesn’t matter. Just love pugs, chihuahuas and min pins, but really all dogs are great .

I absolutely hate puppy mills. I could burn them all down gladly. When I want to breed a dog I just put them together, where it goes from there is up to them, but then I’m not trying to make money off them either. When it’s only the 2 of them trust me the female always puts male on notice.
